Larry E. Lauer

Larry Edmond Lauer was born on February 26, 1942 in McCook, Nebraska to Edmond Oscar and Matha (Wall) Lauer. He attended school in McCook and graduated from McCook High School.

Larry was united in marriage to Barbara Ann Sheldon on April 1, 1962 at Peace Lutheran Church in McCook. The couple made homes in McCook, North Platte, Nebraska, and Colby, Kansas before moving one final time back to McCook. Larry farmed with his father after high school and then moved on to a career as a salesman for the Jewell Company where he worked for 42 years. He also worked for the McCook Gazette for 10 years until failing health forced him to retire.

Larry was a member of the Elks Club and the Lutheran Church in McCook. Larry loved the time spent with the family at the lake; he was an avid water-skier in his youth. He enjoyed hunting, anything to do with racing, and collecting wolf heads. He will be missed and fondly remembered by each and every life he touched in his 82 years.

Larry passed away early Friday morning, October 11, 2024 at his home in McCook. He was 82 years of age.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Kyle Lauer; as well as many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Larry is survived by his wife, Barbara Lauer of McCook; sons, Kevin Lauer and significant other, Nancy Casey and Brett Laure and wife, Deidre both of McCook; grandchildren: Brandon Lauer and Tyler (Kelsi) Lauer of Perry, Iowa, Reilly Lauer and Jalene (Devin) Oelke of Lincoln, Nebraska, Bradley (Erica) Hoffmann, Brittany Hoffmann, and Brandon Hoffmann of McCook, and Brenna Johannsen of Bartley, Nebraska; great-grandchildren: Alyssa, Cameren, Westan, Madelynn, Ein, Colsen, Bella, Lilliana, Kason, Brooklynne, and Maverick; and siblings, Velma Kircher, Victor (Sandy) Lauer, and Geraldene Benjamin.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 15, 2024 from 10:00 AM - 7:00 PM at Herrmann-Jones Funeral Chapel in McCook. Larry's family will be present to greet friends from 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM.

Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 AM on Wednesday afternoon, October 16, 2024 at McCook Christian Church. Burial in Memorial Park Cemetery of McCook will follow services.
