Larry Marlin Dyer

Larry Marlin Dyer, age 76, passed away at the Community Hospital in McCook, NE on December 2, 2014. He was born at his home in Bertrand on October 9, 1938 to Jesse and Madge (Stevens) Dyer. Larry grew up in Bertrand graduating from Bertrand High School in 1956. On October 9, 1960 Larry was united in marriage to Karen Whitson in Bertrand, the couple celebrated 54 years together this last October. Larry was employed in Holdrege by Holdrege Electric and later moved to Oxford where he joined KN Energy. The family moved to McCook as Larry was transferred in 1967 as a service technician. He retired after working for 30 years for KN Energy. Larry enjoyed fishing with his family and many friends. He had a passion for gardening. He enjoyed sharing his excess produce with the Senior Center, Pantry and neighbors. Larry and Karen enjoyed traveling together, taking a cruise to Alaska and a tour of the New England states. Larry was preceded in death by his parents; infant sister; Iona Dyer; sister; Beulah and husband Rueben Stehl; brother; Dean and wife Dorothy Dyer; sister-in-law; Marian Dyer; brother-in-law Gary Ness. Larry is survived by his wife Karen of McCook, NE; daughter; Deanna and husband Les Schmidt of Indianola, NE; son; David and wife Amelia of Highlands Ranch, CO; 3 grandchildren; Kyle Dyer; Hannah Dyer; Cory Dallam; 3 brothers; Doug and wife Terry of Kearney, NE; Bruce and wife Addie of Aurora, NE; Leonard of Hastings, NE; sister; Alice and husband Ralph Draney of Great Bend, KS; sister-in-law Anita Ness of Paris, MO. Funeral services will be held at the Memorial United Methodist Church in McCook, NE on Monday, December 8, 2014 at 10:30 AM with Dr. Doug Griger and Reverend Clark Bates officiating. Burial will be in the Highland Cemetery of Bertrand, NE at 2:30 PM graveside. Visitation will be held at the Herrmann-Jones Funeral Chapel on Sunday, December 7, 2014 from 1:00 PM till 4:00 PM.
