Kent David Fichtner was born on February 13, 1972 in North Platte, Nebraska to David and Colleen (Palic) Fichtner. He graduated from Hayes Center High School and continued his education at McCook Community College, receiving his associates degree. Kent then attended the University of Nebraska at Lincoln, receiving his bachelor’s degree in animal science.
Kent returned to the family farm in Hayes Center where he was a dedicated farmer and part-time bus driver for Hayes Center Schools, where he enjoyed being a familiar, friendly face to students and families alike. On February 13, 2021 Kent was united in marriage to Blanca Hernandez.
Kent was deeply involved in his community throughout his life, participating in the Hayes County 4-H, the University of Nebraska Livestock Judging Team, and the LEAD program from 2002-2003. He was also an active member of FFA, always working to encourage and support the next generation of young farmers and leaders.
Kent's greatest joy in life came from his family and friends. He was a devoted father, grandfather, husband, brother, son, and friend. He had a special ability to make everyone feel like they were part of his extended family and was known for his kind heart and generous spirit. Kent loved animals, particularly horses and cattle, and had a deep connection to the land he worked.
He cherished his time outdoors, particularly when it came to fishing and camping. He also loved the quiet comfort of his home, often relaxing with his favorite Food Network shows and old western movies.
A man of faith, Kent had a close relationship with God and was a member of the Lutheran Church in Culbertson, where he found both strength and solace in his beliefs.
Kent passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, March 11, 2025 at his home in Hayes Center at the age of 53.
He was preceded in death by father, David Fichtner and grandparents, Albin and Lavina Palic and Wesley and Vivian Fichtner.
His memory will carry on through his wife and son, Blanca Fichter and Juan Pablo Fichtner of the home place; daughter, Reilly Fichtner and husband, Jonathan Miller and Kent’s granddaughter, Haiden Miller of Minden, Nebraska; mother, Colleen Sellers and husband, Wayne of Curtis, Nebraska; and brother, Jarred Fichtner of Hayes Center; as well as countless friends.
