Kenneth Leroy Lewis

Kenneth Leroy Lewis age 71 of Cambridge passed away at the Cambridge Manor in Cambridge on Sunday September 6, 2015. He was born on the famoy farm in chase County near Wauneta, Nebraska on November 12, 1943 to Elmer and Leretta (Bush) Lewis. Kenneth was the youngest of 10 Children. He attended country school through the eighth grade, and then went to high school in Wauneta graduating from Wauneta High School in 1961. He was an outstanding athlete during his high school career.

Kenneth was baptized at an early age in the Wauneta Methodist Church. He worked various farm jobs in the area, later getting job at the Beverly Elevator. It was there that he met Joanne Moncrief. The couple married on March 21, 1964 and celebrated there 51 anniversary this year. To this union two sons were born: Anthony Quinn and Bradford Dean.

While Kenneth worked on farms and ranches, the couple made there home in several towns in their married life, Ogallala, North Platte, Eddyville all in Nebraska; Clay Center, Kansas. Kenneth got a job with the Nebraska Department of Roads in Gothenburg working his was through the many jobs and finally retiring as the Supervisor.

In 1983, the couple bought the Bowling Center in Cambridge, changing the name to Trojan Lanes, the high school mascot. Kenneth loved owning his own business for 20 years, making many friends along the way. He enjoyed each day with the bowlers in the leagues. Kenneth sold the Trojan Lanes, after having open heart surgery and could no longer keep up with the long hours due to his health.

Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents; son Anthony Quinn "Tony" in 1989: sisters: Lorene Greeley, Vera Remington; brother: Glen Lewis: brothers-in-law: Paul Greeley; Worth Kanost; Victor Wicke and Ed Bass.

He is survived by his wife Joanne "Jo" Lewis; son Brad and wife Michele Lewis all opf Cambridge; brothers: Loyd and wife Doris Lewis of Lincoln, NE; John and wife Frances Lewis of Wauneta, NE; Jim and wife Charleen Lewis of Avoca, IA; sisters: Los Kanost, Reva Wicke both of Wauneta, Ne; Nadine Bass of Haysville, KS; brothers-in-law: Richard Remington of Minden. NE; Robert and Sandi Moncrief of Kearney, Ne: sisters-in-law: Charlotte and husband Tommy Palmer of Brady, NE Beverly and husband Gordon Fitzwater of Denver, CO; 7 grandchildren: Taylor Lweis, Jericca and husband Emil Kates, Taron Lewis, Ryann and Brady Lewis, Torey Fleischer and Trevor Fleischer; greatgrandchild: Ariel Jo along with many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 11, 2015 at the Trinity United Methodist Church in Cambridge, Nebraska with Pastor Jeff Wulf officiating. Interment will be in the Riverview Cemetery in Wauneta, Nebraska at 1:00 MST. Memorials may be left in Kenneths name at the Lockenour-Jones Mortuary in Cambridge.
