Obituary

Kenneth R. Funk, of McCook, passed away on Thursday morning, May 21, 2026, at Community Hospital in McCook. He was 85 years of age.

Kenneth was born in Centralia, Illinois on December 20, 1940, to James and Violet (Nelson) Funk. He attended and graduated from Capitol Hill High School in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

On February 14, 1991, Kenneth married Rebecca Coyle at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Culbertson, Nebraska and the couple settled in McCook, NE. To this union three children were born; Brenden, Nichelle and Camden.

He worked for Wolverine Shoe Company for several years and upon settling in McCook, decided to stop traveling and start helping with the family business and family farm. His gift of talking led to his employment in advertising with High Plains Radio Station where he worked until February 2026.

Ken and his family are members of McCook Christian Church.

In his earlier years, Ken was a member of the Cloud Co. Jr. College Adopt an Athlete Program and also was a passionate softball player for the Carey Heights Baptist Church’s softball league.

Kenneth was an avid hunter, loved to fish, golf, camp, boating and slinging the kids and friends off the tube and driving the camper up and through the mountains. His “love” was to follow his kids and grandkids to each and every activity they were in.

Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents, James and Violet Funk; sister, Danna Williams; son, Tory Funk; brother-in-law, Johnny Hurst; in-laws, Jerry and Jackie Coyle; and daughter-in-law, Julie Funk.

Kenneth is survived by his wife, Becky Funk; sons, Brenden (Bailey) Funk and Todd Funk; daughters, Nichelle (Tanner) Bauer and Camden (Austin) Mack; grandchildren, Stetson and Sterling Funk, Carter and Huntley Bauer, Scottlyn, Baylen and Aubryn Mack, Nick (Sasha) and Lauren Funk, 5 great grandchildren; brother, Joe (Sandy) Funk; sisters, Joyce Hurst and Linda (Wayne) Cotton; and brother-in-law, Neal Coyle and Jane Holmes.

Cremation was chosen. Ken's family will greet friends on Wednesday afternoon, May 27, 2026, from 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM at Herrmann-Jones Funeral Chapel in McCook.

Memorial services are scheduled for 10:00 AM on Thursday, May 28, 2026, at the McCook Christian Church with Pastor Clark Bates officiating. A private family inurnment will take place at a later date.

Memorials are suggested to the family of Ken Funk for future designation. Online condolences may be left at herrmannfh.com. Arrangements have been entrusted to Herrmann-Jones Funeral Chapel of McCook.
