Kenneth Henry Albert, age 89, of Culbertson passed away on Thursday, January 30, 2020 at McCook Community Hospital, surrounded by family. Kenneth was born August 9, 1930 in Culbertson, NE to Henry and Marie (Gies) Albert. He attended and graduated from Culbertson High School in 1947, continuing his education at University of Nebraska at Lincoln, where he studied Agronomy. On November 15, 1959, he married Myrna Blobaum, they celebrated their 60th anniversary in 2019. This union was blessed with three children: Kimberly, Kyle and Korey. Ken served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, receiving an Honorable discharge on March 13, 1954. He was active with the VFW and American Legion, serving as Commander for many functions, including Honor Guard at funerals and Memorial Day observances. Ken was very active in serving his community: he served as the Culbertson School Board president for 12 years, Governors task force for Irrigation, Irrigation Board, Nebraska Cattlemans Association and McCook Elks Lodge. He was a member of the Culbertson Methodist Church, holding many offices including Finance Director and other Administrative offices. The family took many vacations, usually a two-week trip in the summer to many parts of the country while his children were at home. Ken has traveled with family and friends to all 50 of the United States. After Ken retired from farming, he and Myrna took bus trips to many locations. They also cruised to many exotic places: Hawaii, Costa Rica, Aruba, St. John and Alaska. Ken also was very family-oriented, spending time watching his kids events ranging from Basketball, Volleyball, Football and Band performances. Ken taught his children that a hard work ethic and fairness were principals to live by. He was preceded in death by his parents Henry and Marie; and five sisters, Freda Carter, Lydia Murray, Helen Lucas, Esther Gallavan and Martha Haupt. Ken is survived by his wife Myrna of Culbertson; one daughter, Kimberly and husband, Larry Lorenzen, of Kansas City, MO; two sons, Kyle and wife, Paula Albert, of Arlington, VA, and Korey and wife, Barbara Albert, of Ft. Collins, CO; five grandchildren, Brock and Grant Lorenzen; Grace, Hope and Joy Albert; and two sisters, Marian Falconer of Lake St. Louis, MO, and Jolene McInnis of Lincoln, NE; as well as many nieces and nephews. Memorials may be left to the Culbertson United Methodist Church in Ken's name. Visitation will be held at the Herrmann-Jones Funeral Chapel, McCook, on Monday, February 3, 2020 from 10:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. The family will be present from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. to greet friends. Friends may leave online condolences at herrmannfh.com Funeral service for Ken will be held on Tuesday, February 4, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at the Culbertson United Methodist Church with Pastor Alisa Parde officiating.
