Joyce Nicholson

Lebanon- Joyce Elaine Nicholson, a long-time resident of Lebanon, ascended into heaven on Monday the 30th of May while in Lincoln, NE. Born on March 15, 1944 in Dighton, Kansas to Kenneth and Norma (Davidson) Zink. Joyce was the oldest of three siblings. In 1962 she graduated from Beaver Valley High School as the Valedictorian and was selected to Girls State in Lincoln. Joyce married Melvin Nicholson, on November 24, 1962 in Danbury, NE. Joyce and Melvin were blessed with four children; Michele, Scott, Pam and Stephen. Joyce worked at the Lebanon post office, the Beaver Valley school district, was a homemaker and assisted Melvin with the daily operations of the farm. During her lifetime, Joyce was involved in her children's lives going to sporting events, music performances, fundraisers, and helping with school projects. She was active in her Christian faith, bible studies, and community gatherings in both Lebanon and Danbury. She was a county health board member, volunteered as a hospice care giver and in the Cambridge hospital Thrift shop. Her hobbies and interests included sewing, knitting, croqueting, cake decorating and gardening. Joyce is survived by her husband, Melvin, daughter Michele (Andy) Gerkman of South Lyon, MI; son, Scott (Arfe) Nicholson of Cary, IL; daughter, Pam (Les) Hotovy of Omaha; and son Stephen (Valoree) Nicholson of Lincoln. Grandchildren Taylor Wesch, of Lincoln; Melissa and Luke Gerkman of South Lyon, MI; Jessica, Josh, and Jenna Hotovy of Omaha and Raylee Nicholson of Lincoln. Siblings Joan Dube of Sparks, NV and Larry Zink (Laurel Erickson) of Lincoln and nieces and nephews. She was proceeded in death by her parents. Services will be held on Friday, June 3rd at 10:30 a.m. at Lockenour-Jones Mortuary Cambridge, NE. Pastor Craig Christner will be officiating the service. A visitation will be held on Thursday, June 2 at Lockenour-Jones Mortuary from 9:00 till 7:00 Pm Family will be present to greet friends from 5:00 till 7:00 Pm. Final resting place will be at the Lebanon cemetery. Friends may leave on-line condolences at lockenour.com Memorials may be made to American Cancer Association, Kearney Region
