Joyce Joan Johnson

November 3, 1933 — September 12, 2015

Joyce Joan Johnson of Stratton, NE passed away at Dundy County Hospital, Benkelman, NE on Saturday, September 12, 2015. She was 81 years old. She was born on November 3, 1933 at Sioux Falls, SD where she attended school. On August 8, 1951 she was united in marriage to Charles Rodell Johnson at Sioux Falls. They made their home in Mitchell, SD until 1969 at which time they moved to Denver, CO. Joyce was a busy mother of three as well as a bookkeeper for a restaurant and lounge. When Joyce and Charles decided to retire they made a decision to move to Stratton where life was a little slower paced and cost of living was reasonable. They came to love the Stratton community where Joan was a member of United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women, Stratton Library Board and American Legion Auxiliary. Joyces passion was making porcelain dolls of which she made many and often receiving purple ribbons at the county fair. Her children and grandchildren were all recipients of some of her dolls. Something they will treasure forever. She also enjoyed reading, cooking and gardening until her health prevented her from it. Preceding her in death were her parents, George and Marvel Voels; and two brothers, Marvin and Don. Survivors include her husband, Charles of 64 years; her daughter, Nancy and husband, Charles Dallas Hall, of Denver, CO; two sons, Stephen Johnson and wife, Lenay, of Gothenburg and Brett Johnson of Stratton; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren with another coming soon; numerous family and a host of friends. Memorials may be given in her name. Friends may go online at www.herrmannfh.com to extend condolences to the family. Graveside services will be Friday, September, 18, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. at Fort McPherson National Cemetery, Maxwell, Nebraska. Pastor Sheila Taylor will be officiating. Herrmann Jones Funeral Chapel of McCook, NE is in charge of the arrangements. Graveside Service
