John F. Johnson

John F. Johnson, age 68 of Cambridge died at the Cambridge Memorial Hospital on Monday, May 16, 2011. He was born in Cambridge on September 10, 1942 to Henry Arnold and Henrietta Marie (Franklin) Johnson. John attended and graduated from Cambridge High School in 1960. He attended Kearney State College playing football, graduating with a Bachelors Degree in Business in 1964. John joined the US Army in March 1965, serving his tour of duty in Germany being discharge in March of 1967. John later earned a Masters Degree in Physical Education from Kearney State College. On June 7, 1969 he was united in marriage to Colleen K. Moore. The couple began a teaching career at Stamford, NE. John then taught 6 years at Bertrand High School and was head football and wrestling coach. His wrestling team captured a State wrestling title while at Bertrand. John and Colleen moved back to Cambridge in 1975. During his years at Cambridge John taught business, physical education. He also served as head football coach, assistant basketball coach and Jr. High football. John enjoyed being outdoors. He was and avid bow and rifle hunter for deer. He enjoyed his garden and restoring old vehicle. John retired from teaching in 2004. John also ran a clothing store and a sporting goods store in Cambridge, Mr. Js Sports. John was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife: Colleen of Cambridge; 2 sons: Tracy of Denver and Chris of Cambridge; 2 sisters: Sharon and husband Harvey of La Guna Nigual, CA; Karen and husband Don West of Cannan, NH; 1 brother: Don and wife Judy Johnson of Omaha.

Funeral services will be held at the Trinity United Methodist Church in Cambridge on Friday, May 20, 2011 at 10:30 AM with Bill Weaver officiating. Burial will be in the Fairview Cemetery of Cambridge. Memorial may be left in Johns name at the Lockenour-Jones Mortuary. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 10 AM till 8PM, Thursday from 9:00 AM till 9:00 PM.
