John Eugene Goetz

John Eugene Goetz of McCook passed away Tuesday, March 3, 2020 at the Phelps Memorial Health Center in Holdrege, Nebraska. He was 91 years old. John was born on November 20, 1928 at Santa Rita, New Mexico to parents, Lee and Esther M. (Smith) Goetz. He graduated from high school in 1946. On March 13, 1946 he entered the United States Marines and proudly served until his honorable discharge on January 7, 1948. John worked for Boeing Aircraft in Seattle as a draftsman for several years. He also worked in construction as a heavy equipment operator until his retirement. He was united in marriage to Nelda Faye Judd at Deming, New Mexico on October 8, 1985. In 2009, the couple moved to the McCook community to be near their children. John and Nelda enjoyed traveling together. John also enjoyed driving his Jeep through the mountains, taking long walks, and just tinkering in his workshop. Preceding him in death were his parents; one brother; one sister; and one grandson. He is survived by his wife, Nelda, of McCook; stepsons, Larry Howard, Jim Howard and friend, Carol Young, and Victor Howard all of McCook; six step-grandchildren; four nephews, two nieces, and a host of friends. Memorials may be given in his name. In keeping with Johns wishes, he will be cremated and no services at this time. Herrmann Jones Funeral Chapel of McCook is entrusted with arrangements.
