John Dee Corder of McCook passed away Sunday, January 27, 2019 at Community Hospital. He was 91 years old. John was born on April 12, 1927 at McCook, Nebraska to John Franklin and Mabel (Roggence) Corder. John grew up in McCook where he attended school. At the age of 17, John started working for the B.N. Railroad Roundhouse where his father worked. He then got a job as a fireman at the age of 18. A short time later, John was called to serve his country in the US Army, joining his two older brothers for two years over-seas, until his honorable discharge. On May 2, 1948, he married Dorothy M. Williams in Brush, Colorado. He took his bride to St. Francis, Kansas until he was called back to McCook to work for the railroad. In 1949, the couple moved into a small home on South 8th Street, just a block east of where John was born, and have continued to live for the past 69 years together. John worked for the railroad for 42 years before retiring. The couple moved to Tennessee to finish Bible College. After school, they traveled in their RV volunteering ministry and helping small churches over the next few years in Nebraska. John was then called to Pastor two churches with the Assembly of God Church. They enjoyed going to the Senior Center for lunch and fellowship with their friends. John enjoyed his retirement years helping others and would often be found at a neighbors house when it was time for lunch. He was always pouring cement for the church and others that needed help. They enjoyed vacations traveling in their motor home. Johnny, as many called him, was loved by everyone. He was a man that loved Jesus and will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Preceding John in death were his parents, Franklin and Mabel Corder; his son, Julius Corder; two sisters; and three brothers. Survivors include his wife of over 70 years, Dorothy Corder of McCook; daughter, Diana L. and husband, Charles Gull, of McCook; and James E. Corder of Alameda , CA; two granddaughters, Veronica and Angie and husband, Todd Felber; seven great-grandchildren, Trevor, Tate, Dylan, Kayla, Jayce, Courtney and Kinley; sister, Gwendolyn and husband, Bud Defries, of Arapahoe; brother, Marvin Corder and wife, Orian, of Bird City, KS; numerous family and a host of friends. Memorials may be given in his name. Friends may send condolences to the family at www.herrmannfh.com Memorial service will be Monday, February 4, 2019, 11:00 a.m. at First Assembly of God Church, McCook, with Pastor Barry Johnson officiating. A private family inurnment will be in Riverview Cemetery at a later date. Herrmann Jones Funeral Chapel of McCook is entrusted with arrangements.
