Jerry Alan Mustion

February 13, 1953 — January 7, 2025

Jerry Alan Mustion was born on February 13, 1953 to Fred and June (Hauxwell) Mustion at St. Catherine’s Hospital in McCook, Nebraska. He graduated from Republican Valley High School with the class of 1971; his class was the first to graduate from Republican Valley. Jerry furthered his education, receiving his associate’s degree in wildlife management.

Jerry was united in marriage to the love of his life, Kristene Arnold on September 15, 1973 in Hastings, Nebraska. They lived in a house southwest of Culbertson, Nebraska where Jerry farmed and ranched with his dad and brother-in-law on the family farm. Jerry and Kristene later built a new home northeast of Culbertson where they lived and made memories for the rest of their lives together.

Jerry was a lifelong farmer and rancher. He was also a youth leader for 30 years and invited many in need kids to live with Kristene and himself. The family faithfully attended church weekly. Jerry and Kristene loved to travel. They visited 49 out of 50 states in the United States, only missing Alaska. Their travels also took them all over the world, often sharing the experiences with their family. Jerry enjoyed fishing, pheasant hunting, jet-skiing and going everywhere his Ranger/ATV could take him. He was a huge fan of Husker football and volleyball. He volunteered time coaching youth sports. Jerry enjoyed spending time with family, playing games, watching movies and sharing meals. He missed very few of his children’s and grandchildren’s activities over the years.

Jerry passed away on Tuesday morning, January 7, 2025 at Tri Valley Health Systems in Cambridge. He was 71 years of age.

He lost the battle of quickly declining health that he had been fighting since 2020. In the last four to six weeks, he spent a lot of time in and out of the hospital and battling a lot of terminal sicknesses. He told the sweet hospice provider at his last stay at CHI, “I am ready to go see Jesus. I’m tired of fighting.” As much as we wanted to keep him here longer, who are we to keep him from seeing his Maker, who he dedicated his time to, face to face. He wasn’t living life to the fullest as he knew life to be. Homebound and no longer being able to enjoy anything life has to offer.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife, Kristene of Culbertson; son, Nathaniel (Amanda) Mustion of Culbertson, daughter, Angela (David) Barber of McCook, son, Jordan Mustion of Culbertson and daughter, Maleesha Mustion of Culbertson; grandchildren: Osney, Micaiah, Sara, Christelle, Liana, and Kerene Barber and Lennon Mustion; sister, Linda (Mike) Searcey of McCook; and countless friends and extended family.
