Jerry Elton Morgan, 78, of Jacksonville, Florida, passed away on Thursday, September 24, 2020, at home after a long illness. Jerry was born on May 24, 1942 in Winterset, Iowa to Elton Howard and Jessie Roberta (Ball) Morgan. He was one of four children born to this union and was the only boy. When Jerry was a baby, the family moved to Nebraska where he grew up. When he was 17, he joined the United States Army in 1959 through 1965 followed by a Naval career for a total of over 30 years, retiring as Master Chief of the Navy. He was Honorably Discharged on November 28, 2011. He was a Viet Nam veteran and very proud to be a veteran. He returned to McCook and married Collen Shield on March 12, 1966. To this union a son, Jerry Alan, was born on January 29, 1967. He married Julia (Judy) Ann (Hyatt) Cottle on November 13, 1970 in Yulee, Florida. Preceding him in death was his parents, son, sisters, Sandra (Sue) Van Kirk and Diane Bryant. Left to celebrate his life, is his wife, Judy, of the home; Step-sons, Steve (Dana) Cottle of Jacksonville, Florida, Curtis (Debbie) Cottle of Mesa, AZ; sisters: Sharon King of Chesapeake VA, Rose (Mike) Celenza; several nephews, nieces, and other family members and friends. Graveside inurnment will be held at Memorial Park Cemetery in McCook with Pastor Jeff Kelley officiating. Military Honors will be performed by the United States Naval Honors Detail.
