Jane Marie Blume-McConville, age 90, of McCook, Nebraska, passed away peacefully on May 8, 2025, at Hillcrest Nursing Home in McCook, surrounded by her loving family.
Jane was born on November 1, 1934, in McCook to Walter and Marie (Wagoner) Shirley. She married Bernard Blume on November 28, 1950, at St. Catherine’s Catholic Church in Indianola. Together, they raised four children: Ron, Steve, Lorie, and Tim. After Bernard’s passing in 1998, Jane found love again and married Charles McConville on June 6, 2009, also at St. Catherine’s. With this union, Jane welcomed Charles’ nine children—Rita, Charles Duane, Donald, Diane, Kenneth, Kevin, Cheryl, Larry, and Annette—along with their spouses and families, embracing them all with warmth and joy.
A devoted member of St. Catherine’s Catholic Church, Jane was active in the Altar Society, serving as president and faithfully volunteering at funeral dinners well into her 80s. Her commitment to her community and her church was a reflection of her deep faith and generous spirit.
Over the years, Jane held many roles that highlighted her nurturing and selfless nature: she worked as a nurse aide at the Cambridge hospital, clerked at the Indianola grocery store, served in the school kitchen, and lovingly provided daycare to family and friends so others could pursue their work.
Jane was the heart of every gathering, known for her kind spirit, sharp wit, and unwavering love for her family. She delighted in hosting holiday meals—especially Christmas—and made every occasion special with her signature spaghetti, homemade snacks, and endless games of cards. To her many grandchildren, she was affectionately known as "Grammy CoCo," a beloved source of joy, comfort, and ice cream cones. Jane had a wonderful sense of humor and a gift for making people laugh—whether with a clever one-liner, a playful tease, or a perfectly timed joke, she could light up a room with her laughter and quick wit.
Jane was preceded in death by her first husband, Bernard; second husband, Charles; her parents, Walter and Marie (and stepfather, Cecil Brashears); in-laws, Theodore and Elizabeth Blume; son, Ron; grandson, Rob McConville; brothers, Harold, John, and Joe; and sisters, Kathryn Harmon, Patricia Idigpio, Gerry Lunardi, Pauline Evans, and Rita Chambers.
She is survived by her children: Steve (Doug Hearn), Tim (Norma), and Lorie (Bill Crocker); daughter-in-law, Doris Blume; sister-in-law, Alice Hansen; and a large, loving family of 10- grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, and 18 great-great-grandchildren. Her legacy lives on, each of whom carries forward the love and lessons she shared.
Jane’s life was a beautiful testament to compassion, generosity, laughter, and the strength of family. She will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew and loved her—for her warmth, her wisdom, and her ability to make every day just a little brighter.
