Obituary

James "Jim" Nixon, of Bartley, passed away on Thursday, July 2, 2026 at Kearney Regional Medical Center in Kearney, Nebraska. He was 89 years age.

James was born on February 24, 1937 in Leon, Kansas to Alva and Edith (Seymour) Nixon. After graduating from High School, James served in the United States Navy. On December 31, 1961 we married his wife, Margie. They resided in McCook for two years before they moved to their forever home in Bartley, where they have resided for the last 63 years.

James worked for Halliburton from 1960-1963 and then worked for Emrich feed store until he began farming full-time.

James played softball and coached a girls team for one year. He was a good bowler and always enjoyed going to state and national tournaments. He and his brother, Dave, went elk hunting in Colorado for many years, taking various family members and friends with them. In later years, fishing became his passion and he loved to catch walleye. James enjoyed roping and riding and was a member of the Indianola Saddle Club for many years.

     James is preceded in death by his parents; sons, Kirk and Mark Nixon; sister, Nancy Wonser; brother, Stanley Nixon; sisters-in-law, Lora Wolfe, Helen Nixon and Barbara, Hazel and Karen Durner; brothers-in-law, Don Wonser, Tom Wise, Raymond, James and Robert Durner and Richard Allen.

     James is survived by his wife, Margie (Durner) Nixon; sons, James Jr. (Svitlana) Nixon, Jeffrey (Michelle) Nixon; daughter, Kristina (Michael) Grace; brother, David Nixon; sister, Kathy Wise; sister-in-law, Margaret Allen; brother-in-law, Gerald Wolfe; eight grandchildren, seven great- grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

 Cremation was chosen and services are scheduled for 10:30 AM on Saturday, July 18, 2026, at Lockenour-Jones Mortuary in Cambridge. Burial in the Bartley Cemetery will follow services.

 Memorials in Jim's name are suggested to the Bartley Fire and Rescue. Online condolences may be left at lockenour.com. Arrangements have been entrusted to Lockenour-Jones Mortuary of Cambridge.
