James 'Jim' W. Lee

James "Jim" W. Lee, age 87, of McCook, NE., passed away at his home in McCook on March 15, 2023. He was born near Wallace on the family farm, on October 2, 1935 to W.W. "Bill" and Alice (Shanahan) Lee. Jim attended grade school in Grainton, NE in Perkins County. He then attended Hays Center High School graduating in 1954. In 1956, he was united in marriage to Gwendolyn Green in Danbury, NE. The couple celebrated over 66 years of marriage. Jim farmed for a while in Hays County before the family moved to Danbury in 1960 where he worked for the elevator. Jim and Gwen moved to a farm three years later where he raised cattle and crops of wheat and milo. Jim was active in his small community. He served on the Danbury Presbyterian Church Board, School Board, Rural Fire District Board, Cemetery Board and the Danbury Village Board. He and Gwen enjoyed traveling with the bank bus trips around Nebraska and Colorado. He was preceded in death by his parents, W.W. and Alice; sister, Doris Elaine Lee; brothers-in-law, Doug Raney and Dean Skiles; parents-in-law, Vern and Doris Green. Jim is survived by his wife, Gwen of McCook; son, Darryl and wife, Caroyn Lee of McCook; three grandchildren, Jessica (Ken) Thomas, Christina (Toby) Hayden, Angela Hitt (Chris Cuellar) all of McCook; eight great grandchildren: Haylee Thomas, Julee Thomas, Makenlee Thomas, Rylee Thomas, Josh Hitt, Addilynn Hitt, Sawyer Hayden, Saige Hayden; sister, Karol Raney of Sutherland, NE; brother-in-law, Don (Joyce) Green; sister-in-law, Eleanor Skiles. Funeral services will be on Wednesday, March 22, 2023 at 10:30 AM at the McCook Christian Church with Pastor Kyle Dellevoet officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday, March 21, 2023, from 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM at Herrmann-Jones Funeral Chapel, McCook, with family present to greet friends from 5:00-7:00 PM.
