James "Jim" Tyson

July 5, 1955 — October 23, 2024

James F. Sayer Tyson was born on July 5, 1955 in McCook Nebraska to Leo and Betty Sayer, and departed this life to find peace on October 23, 2024, in North Platte, Nebraska. He was 69 years, 3 months and 18 days old.

Jim was the fourth of seven children. Jim suffered the loss of his mother when he was five years old. He continued to live with his father and attend Cambridge Elementary School, until it was decided for his maternal grandparents, Guy and Nettie Tyson would adopt him and two of his sisters. He attended McCook High School for four years under a special program, finishing in 1974 or 1975. After finishing school, he attended a welding course in Hastings, Nebraska and worked there for a year. After that, he returned to the Cambridge area where he held several jobs, working at the hay mill, for farmers, and at the elevator. His final move was to Indianola, Nebraska to work at the elevator there. His working career ended when he suffered a fall from a ladder and onto concrete, which left him with a permanent disability. Jim returned to Cambridge where he lived until 1996.

When his adopted father, Guy Tyson, was having health issues, Jim moved to Paxton, Nebraska to assist him. After Guy passed away, Jim remained in Paxton until 2012, when he needed to move closer to his doctors. He moved to North Platte, where he played with his dogs, rode his pedal cart, practiced his hobbies of yarn work, leather work, tinkering with anything and visited with friends and neighbors.

Jim was proceeded in death by his birth parents, Leo and Betty Sayer; his adoptive parents, Guy and Nettie Tyson (grandparents); and one brother, Joe Sayer.

Survivors include half-sister, LaVonne Hanchera of Danbury, Nebraska; sister, Liz (Cecil) Kastler of South Coffeeville, Kansas; brother, Al Sayer of McCook, Nebraska; sister, Ruth (Don) Hancock of Burr Oak, Kansas; sister, Donna ten Bensel (Stanley Slangal) of Sargent, Nebraska; brother, Larry Sayer (Donna Ornelas) of Denver, Colorado; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
