Jack A. Loomis

July 19, 1932 — February 25, 2022

Jack A. Loomis, of McCook, passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by his family, at the age of 89, on Friday, February 25, 2022. Jack was born on his family farm in rural Hayes County on July 19, 1932, to Ewing Reed and Lela Mae (Rogers) Loomis. He was raised on his family farm and attended Hayes Center high school until graduating in 1951. He was involved in football, basketball, and baseball while growing up, as well as an avid Husker fan his whole life. On May 8, 1952, Jack was united in marriage to Hazel Ward at the Union Congregational Church parsonage in Hayes Center. After uniting, they were blessed with three sons, Benjie, Danny, and Scott Loomis. In December of 1952 Jack was drafted to the United States Army. After proudly serving his country in Korea, Jack was discharged in 1954. After returning home to Hayes County, he began working for his father-in-law raising cattle. Shortly after that, he began his own farming and ranching operation in Eastern Hayes County. While living on the farm, he was a member, as well as on the board of the Evergreen Union Church. His life passion was farming and raising cattle, and his favorite time of the year was fall harvest. In 2002, Jack and Hazel bought a house in McCook, Nebraska and slowly began retiring over the next 12 years. In 2014 they moved to their home in McCook, permanently, and began attending West First Chapel. Since his retirement, he started the hobby of wood working. He made models of John Deere farm equipment as well as bird feeders out of wood pieces. Many of his finished products were given to his family. Jacks wife and family were very important to him. He loved spending time with them and making memories. Jack was preceded in death by his parents, Ewing Reed and Lela Mae Loomis; son, Scott Loomis in 2007; three brothers, Edwin (Neva) Loomis, Reed Jr. (Vonda) Loomis and Ronald Loomis; father-in-law Elmer (Jessie) Ward; brothers-in-law, Harold (Jeanne) Yohe, Robert (Ruth) Ward and Lamoine McKillip; along with a very special niece Carla McKillip.
