Herbert Laverne Peck

Herbert L. Peck age 82 of McCook, passed away at his home on Sunday, January 17, 2016. He was born in Arnold, NE on December 3, 1933 to Edwin and Gertrude (McComb) Peck. Herb attended school through the 8th grade in Custer County. He later completed his GED with his daughter Peggy in 1980. After a courtship including movie dates and drives to Ogallala in his Chevy he married Claudetta Uehling on March 13, 1955 in Grant. Herb worked as a serviceman for Goodsons, Modern Appliance, and Sears. Later he went into business for himself repairing appliances under the name of Herb's Appliance Service. He attended training in Chicago and Dallas for appliance certification courses. In his spare time he enjoyed collecting scale model tractors, woodworking, volunteering with Habitat for Humanity, volunteering at his church and spending time with his family. Herb's "handyman" skills were sought after and he spent a lot of time helping his friends and family with repairs to their homes and appliances. Herb enjoyed helping Eddie Uehling (his father-in-law) and Bernie Kuskie with harvest and other farm chores. He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings: John, David John, Arlie, Margaret, Vera Helen, Betty, Bob and son-in-law: Ewing Lyle. Surviving Herb is his wife Claudetta of McCook; daughters, Pennie Lyle of McCook and Peggy and husband, Hank Rawn, of Bartley; son, Calvin and wife, Tonya Peck, of Arapahoe: 11 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren. Services will be held at the Our Savior Lutheran Church in McCook on Friday, January 22, 2016 at 2:00 PM interment will be in the Riverview Cemetery of McCook. Visitation will be held on Thursday at the Herrmann-Jones Funeral Chapel in McCook; NE from 9:00 AM till 7:00 PM.
