Granta Merle Wach

Granta Merle (Christensen) Wach of Hayes Center, NE entered into her heavenly home at the age of 93 on Monday, May 29, 2017 at SunriseHeights in Wauneta, NE. Granta, affectionately known as "Doll," was born on January 19, 1924 to Grant and Edna (Zeigler) Christensen. She completed 8th grade at Wauneta in 1938, and graduated from Hamlet High School in 1942. She married her high school sweetheart, Vernon LeRoy Wach, at Hayes Center, NE on August 27, 1944 and they remained devoted and in love with each other celebrating 63 years of marriage. Their son, Donald Grant Wach, was born in 1949. Donald was tragically killed in an automobile accident on May 14, 1967. Granta and Vernon spent their lives working on the family farm in Hayes County, and traveled to El Grande, Arizona to winter for 13 years making lifelong special friendships. After retiring from farming they lived in Ogallala for two years, and then moved to Hayes Center in 1999. Granta enjoyed farm work, traveling and golfing with Vernon, crafts, bird watching, crocheting, and fishing. She moved to Sunrise Heights in Wauneta, NE in January of 2014 for the remainder of her life. Preceding her in death were her husband, Vernon; son, Donald; step brothers, Albert "Frosty" Christensen, Nolan "Tuffy" Manning; step sister, Greta Troutman; brothers, Karl Christensen, Glen "Jay" Christensen, Grant "Junior" Christensen, Robert "Bobby" Christensen; sister, Lavina "Ferne" Fox; Vern's siblings, Naomi Nelson, Helena Hubbard, Harold Wach, Dorean Carey, Ralph Wach, Coletta Hahn; all of her sisters and brothers-in-law; infant niece, Shirley Christensen; nephews, Mitchell Hahn, Ronald Wach, Wayne Scott, Jerry Scott, Ed Scott, Karl "Steve" Christensen, infant twins, Kirk and Kevin Christensen; great-niece, Angela Christensen; and great-nephew Evan Wach. Survivors include numerous nieces and nephews, great and great-great nieces and nephews, cousins, and many other family and friends. Funeral services for Granta M. Wach, age 93, of Hayes Center, NE will be at 3:00 p.m. central time, Thursday, June 1, 2017 at Hamlet Union Church in Hamlet, NE. Pastor Joshua Clark will officiate with burial in Meadow Lawn Cemetery in Hamlet, NE. Pie and coffee will be served following the services. Herrmann Jones Funeral Home of McCook is in charge of arrangements.
