Glen 'Jerry' Gerald Proud

Jerry (Glen Gerald) Proud, age 85, passed away at his home south of Bartley, on Thursday, September 1, 2022, surrounded by his loving family and wife. Jerry was born to Glen and Vesta (Richie) Proud on November 24, 1936, at St. Catherines Hospital in McCook, NE. Jerry attended and graduated from Bartley High School in 1955. Jerry left for the Navy the day after graduation, where he served 4 years. He was Honorably Discharged May 23, 1963.

Jerry started a job as a countertop and carpet installer in Cheyenne, WY. He worked in Minot, ND as a welder and later as a mechanic in Imperial, NE. Jerry moved back to Bartley and began farming for Roy and Margaret Hayes.

On August 4, 1960, Jerry was united in marriage to Murietta Hayes and to this union three sons were born, Robert (Kurt), Larry (Kent) and Kris. Jerry and Murietta adopted two girls, Karen and Gail, adding to the family.

Jerry enjoyed flying RC (radio-controlled) airplanes, welding, and old car shows. He was a member of the St. Catherines Catholic Church and served on the Bartley Rural Fire Board.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Gail Hubbard; grandson, Morgan Hubbard; parents, Glen (Dutch) and Vesta Proud; parents-in law, Roy and Margaret Hayes; brother, Jim Proud.

Jerry is survived by his wife, Murietta; sons, Kurt (Michelle) Proud, Kent (Jenifer) Proud, Kris (Melissa)Proud; daughter, Karen (Tom) Mohr; son-in-law, Kenny Hubbard; Mary Proud; 25 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren and family friends, Gina and Stacy Donnoe.

Funeral services will be held at St. Catherines Catholic Church in Indianola on September 7, 2022, at 10:30 AM with Father Michael Houlihan officiating. Rosary will be recited prior to Mass at 10:00 AM. Visitation will be held at the Lockenour-Jones Mortuary in Cambridge from 10:00 AM - 6:00 PM on Tuesday, September 6, 2022. Interment will be in the Lutheran Cemetery south of Bartley with full Military Honors by the United States Navy and the William Wight American Legion Post of Bartley. Memorials may be given in Jerrys name to St. Judes Cancer Research Hospital. Friends may leave online condolences at lockenourfh.com. Lockenour-Jones Mortuary is entrusted with arrangements.
