Geryl 'Dewayne' Hanchera

June 29, 1933 — May 17, 2020

Geryl "DeWayne" Hanchera, of rural Danbury, surrounded by his family, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, May 17, 2020. He was 86 years old. DeWayne was born on June 29, 1933, on the family farm near Danbury, to Stephen William "Bill" and Edith Belle (Axtell) Hanchera. He graduated from Danbury High School in 1951. He continued his education at McCook College graduating in 1953 with an associate degree in business. He was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran faith. DeWayne was a member of Peace Lutheran Church in McCook where he remained an active and devoted member until his passing. On June 9, 1954, DeWayne was united in marriage to LaVonne B. Sayer at Peace Lutheran Church in McCook. They made their home on a farm near Danbury where they raised their four sons. Farming mainly wheat and milo in addition to raising a cow/calf operation was DeWaynes lifelong passion. Dewayne loved the outdoors and in retirement spent much of his time taking care of his yard and tending to his trees. Other interests included hunting and fishing with his family. DeWayne and LaVonne loved to go dancing and spending time with family and friends. Preceding him in death were his parents, Bill and Edith Hanchera; son, Robert "Bob" Hanchera. Survivors include his wife of 65 years, LaVonne Hanchera; son, Steven (Kathy) Hanchera of Swisher, IA, their children Marissa (Josh) Keldgord and sons, Carter and Colton, Andrea (Robby) Russman and son, Noah, and expecting a second child in December; son, Daniel (Mary) Hanchera of Houston, TX and their children Joshua (Dever) Hanchera, Gabrielle Hanchera, Rachel Hanchera and Michael Hanchera; son, Robert (deceased) and Kellys children, Ryan (Petra) Hanchera and Danielle Hanchera; son, Scott (Kristyl) Hanchera of Danbury and their children, Lindsay (Lee) McConville, daughters Elizabeth and Emma and Alex (Melissa) Hanchera and their son, Benjamin; numerous family and a host of friends. Memorials may be given in his name to Peace Lutheran Church, McCook NE. Private family service will be streamed live on Peace Lutheran Church, McCook, NE Facebook page. Visitation will be Tuesday, May 19, 2020 from 1:00 p.m. 7:00 p.m. at Herrmann Jones Funeral Chapel in McCook. Please keep in mind only ten people may be present at one time. Words of comfort may be sent to the family at www.herrmannfh.com Due to the COVID 19 guidelines the family will have a private family funeral on Wednesday, May 20, 2020 at Peace Lutheran Church in McCook with Pastor Lonnie Felcher officiating.
