Georgia J. "Jody" Kirby, age 87, passed away with family by her side, at the Community Hospital of McCook, NE, on November 25, 2022. She was born to Perry and Arietta (Hughes) Doak in the family sod house at St. Francis, KS, on September 12, 1935. Jody enjoyed carpentry, gardening, painting pictures, word puzzles and playing softball for Hillcrest Nursing Home. She was a great cook and for a short time, opened the Hometown Caf in Cambridge, Nebraska. She also worked as a CNA at the Cambridge Nursing Home, but her favorite job was as a shade tree mechanic, rebuilding transmissions for Joe Allen in the late 70s. Jody was a beautiful quilter, she made too many quilts to count, if she knew you, you probably have one. She raffled several off for different organizations including her brother, Waynes fast pitch softball team and the Nebraska Cornhuskers. She also enjoyed staying in touch with all of her family and friends on Facebook, and there were many. She was preceded in death by her parents, Perry and Arietta; infant daughter, Laurese Kirby; infant son, Vance Kirby; grandchildren: Lacey Brunswick, Harold "Chip" Wright, Michael Wright; great-grandchildren, Jill Wright and Nicholas Cook; son-in-law, Robert "Bob" Wright; sister, Patricia (Doak) Norton; brother, Wayne Doak; and brother-in-law; Rodney Mustard. Jody is survived by her son, Randy (Cathy) Dean of Indianola; daughters: Reta Dean-Cooper of Spartanburg, SC; Laurel "Lauri" Wright of Pueblo, CO; Larena "Larri" (Bill) Follis of Coffeyville, KS; Paul Follis of Coffeyville, KS; Shannon (Curt) Van Pelt of Winfield, KS; Lisa (Randall) Kisling of Dyersburg, TN; Sherry Cruse of Urania, LA; her best friend, Bella Brunswick; 16 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; her brothers: Ed (Francis) Doak of Alva, OK and Elza (LeAnn) Doak of McCook; sisters, Joann (Dale "Pinky") Pinkston of Glencoe, OK, Janet (Stan) Lawyer of Bloomington, NE, and Blanche Mustard of Alva, OK. The family honored Jody's wishes of cremation. Friends may leave online condolences at herrmannfh.com. Memorials may be left in her name at the Herrmann Jones Funeral Chapel Graveside services will be held at 2PM, Monday afternoon, April 24, 2023 at Memorial Park Cemetery in McCook with Pastor Steve Bales officiating.
