Gary Lee Korus

Gary Lee Korus, age 70, of McCook, passed away Saturday, July 10, 2021 at the Kearney Regional Hospital in Kearney, Nebraska. He was born in Omaha to Clement T. and Frances (Gaston) Korus. He attended and graduated from Bennington High School in 1969. He attended the University of Nebraska at Omaha and was on the wrestling team. In 1971 he enlisted in the United States Army Reserves. Gary was united in marriage to Gayl Gilliam on June 6, 1981, in Omaha. To this union three children were born, Dallas, Cody, and Clayton. The couple celebrated 40 years of marriage this year. Gary worked on the family farm until 1984 when they moved to Alzada, MT where he worked as a ranch hand. They moved back to McCook in 1985 where he was a grain elevator manager for Seaboard Grain Company and retired as a grain elevator manager for Farmers Coop in Trenton, Nebraska. Gary treasured family time and family vacations, attending all of each childs sporting events. He helped coach his boys sports teams, wrestling, flag football, baseball, soccer and he cheered on his daughter in softball, basketball, and tennis. He liked to be outdoors, fishing, camping, and hiking. Gary loved to travel and see the countryside and the mountains. The family traveled to many graduations of his son from various military service schools in Georgia, Kentucky, North Carolina, and San Diego as well as to visit his daughter in New Orleans, Florida, and California. Gary was a member of the American Legion, United Methodist Church, and served on the District 41 School Board. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clement and Frances and his sister, Jean Wiese. Gary is survived by his wife, Gayl of McCook; daughter, Cody and husband, Tim Schenck, of Virginia Beach, VA; two sons, Dallas and wife, Ashley Korus, of Blair, NE and Clayton of Clarksville, TN; four grandchildren: Keaton, Carter, Marley, and Quinnley; and brother-in-law, Dave Wiese. Memorial services will be held on Thursday, July 15, 2021, at the Garden Prairie Methodist Church of McCook at 10:30 A.M. A private family inurnment will take place at a future date. A family gathering and book sign will be held at the Herrmann Jones Funeral Chapel with the family present from 4:30 P.M. till 6:30 P.M. on Wednesday, July 14, 2021.
