Fred L. Weber, 93, went to be with the Lord on February 18, 2015 at the Great Plains Region Medical Center in North Platte He was born in Minsk, Russia on October 16, 1921. His parents were refugees from the Bolshevik Regime. The family traveled across Poland till they stopped in Germany. At age 5, Fred and his family came to America through Ellis Island. The family arrived by train to McCook, NE where his Dad had a farm job waiting. Fred attended District 8 grade school where his first several years were hard due to the fact he spoke no English. He attended and graduated from Culbertson High School in 1939 Fred worked on the farm with his dad until he enlisted in the US Navy on June 27, 1942; he was discharged from the navy on September 28, 1945.Fred served in the Navy in the Pacific theater during World War II. After retuning from the service, a young lady, Bonita Cook, from Culbertson caught his eye and won his heart. They were married and celebrated 67 wonderful years together. The couple made their home on a farm north of Culbertson. After retiring from farming in 1984, Fred was a substitute rural mail carrier for 26 years. Fred was a member of the American Legion Post and the VFW of Culbertson. He served as the Commander for many years. He was a member of the Bethel Missionary Church. He enjoyed watching birds, feeding many stray cats at the Weber Soup Kitchen for stray cats; avid reader, crossword puzzles and solitaire player. Fred enjoyed all sports, even though during his high school days he wasnt involved with sports because he had to return home to help with chores. Fred was preceded in death by his parents; brother Ernst and infant brother and sister. He is survived by his wife, Bonita; daughter, Kathryn and husband, Carl Wilkinson of Culbertson;sister-in-law Roselene eber of McCook; many nieces & nephews; and many more cousins and friends. A Memorial Services at Bethel Missionary Church of Culbertson on planned for Tuesday, March 10, 2015 at 10:30 with Pastor Jason Smith officiating. Inurnment will be in the Culbertson Cemetery with Military Honors. Friends may leave on-line condolences at herrmannfh.com. Memorial maybe left in Freds name at the Herrmann-Jones Funeral Chapel in McCook.
