Fred Louis Boerger, Jr.

Fred Louis Boerger, Jr., age 89, died on October 13, 2019, at Hillcrest Nursing Home in McCook, Nebraska. Fred was born on November 14, 1929, in The Grove, Texas to Rev. Fred and Lena (Mayer) Boerger. Fred was received by the Lord in Holy Baptism in 1929 and by Confirmation in 1944. He was educated in schools in Texas, Colorado, and Kansas, receiving his BA in Education from Concordia Teachers College in Seward, Nebraska and his graduate degree from Wayne State University, Detroit, Michigan. During the Korean Conflict he served in the U.S. Naval Reserve. In 1952, Fred began his teaching ministry in the Lutheran schools in Allen Park and Utica, Michigan. While in Michigan, Fred met and married his beloved wife, Lois Wehmeier and their union was blessed with four children: Cindy, Mike, Karen and Beth. The family served in the schools of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod in Michigan, Denver, Oklahoma and Chicago, before Fred and Lois retired to McCook, where they resided for 25 years. During these years, they enjoyed spending time with their three grandchildren and Fred was active at Peace Lutheran Church, assisted at Victory Christian Academy and the Toy Box. He especially enjoyed working with Crossroads Prison Ministries, and he was active in Right to Life. Preceding him in his death were his wife, Lois; his parents, Fred and Lena Boerger; son-in-law, Terry Roland; and his sister, Lois Albrecht. Fred is survived by his daughter Cindy Boerger of Oklahoma City, OK son Michael Boerger of Washington, DC, daughter Beth (Jon) Sonntag of Wood Dale, IL and Karen Roland of McCook, NE; grandchildren Wyatt Roland, Jesselyn Roland, and Cody (Megan) Roland, parents of great-grandchild Aedan Roland; brother, Paul (Carol) Boerger of Stillwater, WI and numerous family and friends. Services are Friday, October 18, 2019 at 11:00am at Peace Lutheran Church. Memorials can be given to the Board of Missions of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod or to Concordia University, Seward, Nebraska.
