Floyd Albert Schroeder

Floyd A. "Red" Schroeder, age 86, died at the Tri Valley health System Hospital 9in Cambridge, NE on Friday, November 05, 2010. He was born near Oxford, NE, on the family farm, on July 27, 1924, to William Otto and Katie Belle (Tammen) Schroeder. He attended country school later attending school in oxford and graduating from OxfordHigh School. Floyd joined the US Army and was trained as an airplane and engine mechanic. He joined the service in April of 1945 serving in the Asian Pacific Theatre. He was discharged from the army in November 1946. Floyd returned home to farm. On March 12, 1948 he was united in marriage to Wanda Jean Bushnell in Oxford. Wanda preceded Floyd in death n February 26, 1989 Floyd continued to farm, but started to drive transport truck hauling various loads throughout the state. Floyd was a member of the St. Pauls Lutheran Church in Cambridge, NE. He was a member of the American Legion of Oxford, a former Lion Club member. He is a retired member of the Cambridge Fire Department, serving as both fireman and EMT. Family was important to Floyd and Wanda. Two special people entered their lives. A cousin came to live with Floyd and Wanda at age of ten, Mike Hotchkiss. They raised Mike as a family member. In the summer, a cousin, Dale Donnelly came to live and help on the farm. Floyd and Wanda enjoyed traveling the country sight seeing almost all of the states. He continued to travel after her death with a special friend, Elaine Potts. They would winter in Corpus Christi, TX. Floyd liked to be in the out of doors, hunting fishing and boating. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife: Wanda Jean; daughter: Marcia: a sister and her husband: Geraldine and Floyd "butch" Malone; and special friend: Elaine Potts. He is survived by his 2 daughters: Sandy and husband Gary Groshong of Cambridge; Karen and husband Rocky Dockweiler of Oconto, NE; 2 special "sons"; Mike and wife Dee Hotchkiss of Cambridge, NE; and Dale Donnelly of Irving, TX; 10 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; 1 brother: Ralph Schroeder of Alma, NE; 3 sisters: Charlotte and husband Wes Farr of Cambridge; Evelyn Fetherstone of Bayard, NE; Dorothy Martin of Greeley, CO. Funeral services will be held at St. Pauls LutheranChurch in Cambridge on Wednesday, November 10, 2010 at 11:00 AM with Pastor David Feddern. Interment will be in the OxfordCemetery at 3:30 PMNovember 10, 2010. Military Committal will be at graveside. Memorials may be given to TriValley Medical Foundation, St. Pauls LutheranChurch or the Cambridge Fire Department. Friend may leave on-line condolences at lockenour.com.
