Floyd Edward Lankford

Floyd E. Lankford age 80 of McCook, NE passed away at the Hillcrest Nursing Home on Wednesday December 9, 2015. He was born in Telephone, TX on February 15, 1935 to Noel and Vera Mae (Schrum) Lankford. The family moved from Texas to Oklahoma and to later Nebraska where Floyd graduated from Culbertson High School in 1954. During his high school days Floyd was an outstanding athlete, playing basketball, football, baseball and qualified for the Nebraska State Track Meet. Floyd was also the Salutatorian of his class. Floyd married Beverly Alberts and 4 daughters were born to this union: Debra, Pamela, Lorrie and Melanie. Floyd was united in marriage to Jackie Galyean in February 22, 1986. The couple lived in California before retiring to Nebraska. Floyd was employed as an iron worker and a member of the California Iron Works Union. He was known by many of his fellow workers as the Living Legend. Floyd enjoyed waterskiing, golf, fishing and bird hunting with his springer Spaniels, especially his favorite dog Tick. He and Jackie owned the Bear Essentials Store, making furniture for dolls and bears. He was an avid reader of Western novels: Zane Grey and later Louie Lamoure. May days you could find Floyd on the links at Cross creek Golf course either playing or finding golf balls. He was a member of the Grace Baptist church holding several offices on the church council. Floyd was preceded in death by his parents: sister: Wilma and husband Jerry Hudson; niece: Sherry Feist. He is survived by his wife Jackie of McCook; 4 daughters: Debra Delsie of Anchorage, AK; Pamela Clifford of Austin, TX; Lorrie Delsie of Anchorage, AK; Melanie Edwards of Stockton, CA;2 step-daughters: Susan Crothers of NY; Patty Wentz of Thomas Boro, IL; 9 grandchildren many great-grandchildren; sister Betty and husband Kenneth Bradley of McCook, NE ; brother: Jim Lankford McCook, NE. Funeral services will be held on Monday December 14, 2015 at 2:00 PM at the Grace Baptist Church in McCook with Pastor Brett Scollard officiating. Interment will be in the Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation for Floyd will be held on Sunday night from 6 PM till 9 PM at the Herrmann-Jones Funeral Chapel. Friends may leave on-line condolences at herrmannfh.com.
