Elmore Lee Grafel

Elmore Lee Grafel passed away at the age of 88 at the McCook Community Hospital from MDS and congestive heart failure. Elmore was born to August and Mary (Wolfram) Grafel. He graduated from Culbertson High School in 1947. On June 4, 1961, he was married to Beverley Young. They had three children; Scott, Tim, and Tina. Elmore lived his whole life on the homestead farm where he was born and raised. Elmore was baptized, confirmed and a member of the Immanuel Church of Christ in Herndon, Kansas where he was a board member. He was an Elks member for 60 years and was president of the Herndon Equity Coop. Elmore also received his certification to be an electrician. Elmore farmed most of his life. His hobbies were his hogs, gardening, and drinking coffee. His true love was his granddaughters and their many activities. Elmore is preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Scott and Tim Grafel; two sisters, Grace Dack and Gladys Crocker; three brothers Raymond Grafel, Harry Grafel and Harlan Grafel; brothers and sisters in-law, Norma Grafel, Clyde "Bud" Dack, Leo Crocker, Ted Hoxie, Bill Brown, Naomi Kelly and Warren Young. Elmore was a kind, loving, and gentle man and always had a smile. Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Beverley Grafel; daughter, Tina (Alan) Aschoff of Hastings, NE; granddaughters, Miranda and Krystin Aschoff; sisters, Beaulah Brown and Donna Hoxie; brothers and sisters-in-law, Barbara Grafel, Patty Grafel, Gene (Pat) Young and Elaine Mills; special friends, Kenneth and Carol Dugger. Memorials may be given in his name. Visitation will be Wednesday, June 13, 2018, from 10:00 a.m. 7:00 p.m. with family present from 5:00 p.m. 7:00 p.m. at Herrmann Jones Funeral Chapel. Funeral service will be Thursday, June 14, 2018, 10:30 a.m. at McCook Christian Church with Pastor Clark Bates officiating. A private family inurnment will be held at a later time. Herrmann Jones Funeral Chapel of McCook is entrusted with arrangements.
