Effie A. Carlson

Effie A. Carlson age 98, of McCook, died at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney on December 4, 2013. She was born near Cornell, in Hitchcock County, Nebraska on September 10, 1915 to William and Ada (Terrell) Hay. She attended rural School until the 5th grade when her parents moved to Trenton. She graduated from Trenton High School in 1922 as the Valedictorian of the class. She received her normal training and taught two terms Clarence Silver School NW of Trenton. On June 9, 1935 she was united in marriage to William E. Carlson at the home of her parents. The couple farmed on the Carlson home place for 9 years, then to a farm south east of Trenton till retirement. Effie was a member of the Congregational Church and taught Sunday school and was active with the youth. She enjoyed her church and was a faithful member. She was a 4-H leader. Effie was always positive in all her life dealings. Family was important to her. Effie remained on the farm for 3 years after Bills death in 1993, then moved Highland Park and has resided there for the last 17 years. Effie was preceded in death by her parents; husband Bill; a son: Lanny in 2007; 2 sisters: Eula and Elsie; 5 brothers: Virgil; Charlie; Clarence; Gaylord and Keith. She is survived by a son Roger and wife Melinda of Atwood, KS; 11 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; 17great-great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at the Herrmann-Jones Funeral Chapel in McCook, NE on December 9, 2013 at 1:30 PM with Keith Reuther officiating. Interment will be in the Trenton Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Sunday, December 8, 2013 from 1:00 PM till 6:00 PM at the Herrmann-Jones Mortuary in McCook, NE. Memorial may be left to either the Trenton Cemetery of the American Cancer Fund.
