Edward Richard

March 18, 1949 — December 19, 2025

Bartley

Edward Lynn Richard was born March 18, 1949, to Vearl and Dorothy (Haines) Richard in Stratton, NE when his parents were traveling home to Parks from a shopping trip. He was the fourth son of a family of five boys and one girl.

Ed lived on a farm around Parks, NE where he started school. After his mother and grandfather’s death, they moved to St. Francis, KS where he graduated.

Ed worked at a few different jobs, but for most of his life he was a self-employed carpenter and painter.

Ed met Agnes Walz on December 28, 1981, and they have been together ever since. He decided they could get married on February 21, 1991. They enjoyed plenty of fishing and camping together. Ed enjoyed his big gardens, vegetables and flowers. He was very helpful in canning his produce with Agnes. If there was extra, he would have Agnes sell it at the Farmer’s Market or give it away to friends and family. Ed also loved looking for arrowheads and making them out of anything he could. When the weather was cold and he couldn’t be outside, he would be in his garage tinkering and making something.

Ed was just not much of a people person and was perfectly happy with just him, Agnes and outdoors. He was not a big fan of long trips, but enjoyed their evening drives around the countryside to look at nature or the lake. When he could not drive as much, he would go down in his canyon (pasture) to set and relax most evenings. Anything to spend time outside.

Ed passed away on Friday, December 19, 2025 at Tri Valley Health in Cambridge. He was 76 years of age.

Ed was proceeded in death by his parents, Vearl (1984) and Dorothy (1961); his brothers, Robert “Leroy” (1953), Ronald (1961) and Dennis (1991); brother- in law, Robert Herman; parent-in-laws, John and Mary Walz; sister-in-law, Paula Walz; nephews, Robert Herman Jr., Brian Richard and Brian Walz; nieces, Lochlin Herman and Lisa Butterfield; and a few great- nieces and nephews.

Survivors include his wife, Agnes; brother, Daryl (Ronda) Richard; sister, Sheila Herman; brothers and sisters-in-law, Cecelia Walz, Bernard Walz, Alice (Dude) Tines, Millie (Mike) Cuellar and Ginny (Ben) Bortner. Ed had four nieces and three nephews, 14 nieces and nephews- in-law and all their families.
