Douglas James Swanson

Douglas James Swanson, age 61, passed away at Indianola, NE on December 28, 2017. He was born in Hastings, NE on May 30, 1956 to Marvin Swanson and Kay (Lantz) Perkins. Doug received his education in Hastings and graduated from Hastings High School in 1974. He then attended University of Colorado at Boulder, CO, attaining his B.S. Degree. On June 7, 1980 he was united in marriage to Debra Lynne Woodhams in Colorado. The couple made their home in Colorado in several towns before moving to Nebraska in May of 1999. Doug was employed at Valmont Industries as the Chief Engineer and Floor Manager. Doug enjoyed camping, deer hunting, reloading his own ammunition, and collecting guns. He loved to play war games and also made miniature figures for the war board games he played. He always enjoyed family times. He was preceded in death by his wife Debra Lynne; father, Marvin; and stepfather, "Perk" Perkins. Surviving him are his three daughters, Laura Swanson of Denver, CO, Amy and husband, Chris Vossler, of McFarland, KS and Faith Swanson at home; mother, Kay Perkins of Hastings, NE; brothers, Steve and wife, Julie Swanson, of Fitchburg, Wisconsin and Jim Swanson of Littleton, CO; stepmother, Terri Swanson of Littleton, CO; niece and nephew, Sheri and Steve, Jr.; and cousins, Marlys, Vaughn and Vaden. Memorial services will be held at St. John's Lutheran Church in Culbertson on Friday, January 5, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Brad Rick officiating. Inurnment will be held at a later date.
