Douglas Richard Garner, 75, of Trenton, Nebraska, died Tuesday, June 28, 2016, in Trenton, Nebraska after a brief battle with leukemia. He was born on September 10, 1940 at home in Somerset, Nebraska to the late Richard Kenneth Garner and Elizabeth Pauline (Knoll) Garner. He graduated from the University of Nebraska School of Agriculture in Curtis, Nebraska in 1958. On June 9, 1963, Douglas married Shirley Janice Valentine in Arthur, Nebraska and they were blessed with three children. Douglas was foreman on a ranch in Arthur County and moved to Trenton, Nebraska in 1985. Douglas was self employed and did business as Doug Garner Auction and Realty. He assisted in numerous benefit auctions including Ducks Unlimited and White Tail Federation. He was a rural mail carrier in Trenton, Nebraska for 30 years. Douglas was appointed to the Hitchcock County Board of Adjustment and acted as the chair person. Douglas enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, auctions, and rodeos. He was a very supportive father and husband. Douglas was welcomed at Heavens gates by his parents; his parents-in-law, Cecil and Wilma Valentine; Uncle, Robert Garner; a grandchild; a niece, Laura Garner; nephews, Timothy Garner and Brandon Valentine; brothers-in-law Jim Mizner, Harvey Valentine, and John Valentine; and sister-in-law, Irma Valentine. He is survived by his wife; children, D. Eugene (Jamie) Garner of Culbertson, Nebraska, Shari Jo Garner of Lincoln, Nebraska, and Steffanie (Dustin)Kotik of Lincoln; Grandchildren, Dylan Kotik and Delaynee Kotik; siblings, Gary (Phylis) Garner of Gothenburg, Joyce Mizner of Rawlings, WY, Kenneth (Deb) Garner of Chadron, Glenn (Stacey) Garner of Mullin, Allen (Jeanie) Garner of Estes Park, CO, MaryAnn (Nick) Rudloff od Crawford,NE, Donald (Carolyn) Garner of Sioux City, IA, and Ruth (Joe)Brown of Gothenburg; Aunt, Mildred Garner of North Platte, and many family and friends.
