Dorothy Emma Tumbleson age 92 of Cambridge passed away at the Cambridge Memorial; Hospital on November 10, 2015. She was born in Laird, Colorado on September 28, 1923 to Herbert and Emma O. (Ames) Schafer. Dorothy grew up attended and graduated from Wray High School in Wray Colorado in 1941.
Dorothy, in her younger day, drove a semi-truck delivering freight from Colorado, Nebraska and Texas. Later she moved to Nebraska where she married Merle Tumbleson on August 25, 1969 in Elwood, Nebraska. He preceded her in death on February 19, 1993. The couple lived in Indianola and later moved to Cambridge. During this time Dorothy was employed as a cook at Dr. Minnicks Hospital, the Frontier Caf, later bought and ran Merles Caf running that for over 20 years.
Dorothy was a spirited woman; most of her vocabulary came from her truck driving days. She enjoyed Bingo, going to Las Vegas and garage sales. Dorothy moved to the Cambridge Manor three years ago when her health failed.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; Merle; daughter: Donna Mayo; 2 brothers: Duane and Donald Schafer.
Dorothy is survived by her daughters: Patsy and husband Gayle Kelly of Cambridge; Deb and Robert Holstein of Holdrege; 10 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren.
Dorothy chose cremation and a Gathering will take place on November 28, 2015 at the Lockenour-Jones Mortuary in Cambridge. Inurnment will be in the Fairview Cemetery in Cambridge. Friends may leave on-line condolences at lockenour.com. Memorials may be left in her name at the Lockenour-Jones Mortuary in Cambridge.
