Dorothy Henton

Dorothy Marie Henton, age 89, departed her earthly life surrounded by family and entered into Heaven on July 4, 2021, from Hill Crest Nursing Home in McCook, NE. Dorothy was born at home on a farm south of McCook on November 4, 1931, to Fred and Emma (Liebbrandt) Friehe. Dorothy was baptized on November 29, 1931, and was confirmed at Peace Lutheran Church on March 25, 1945, in McCook. She graduated from McCook High School in 1949. Dorothy married Garnet Henton on April 29, 1950, in McCook at Peace Lutheran Church and to this union four children were born, Kathleen, James, Jane Marie, and Leah. Dorothy and Garnet were married for 64 years, at the time of Garnets passing on March 23, 2015. Dorothy was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother "granny," always taking great interest and pride in the activities and accomplishments of her children and grandchildren. Dorothy raised her children in the Christian faith while always being a faithful servant of God and a highly active member of Peace Lutheran Church. She enjoyed serving in multiple leadership capacities and was a member of LWML (Lutheran Womens Missionary League), where she served as McCooks 1st President along with being a charter member. Dorothy was also the Vice President of the district board of Nebraska "South District" for 12 years of the Church. She enjoyed serving in multiple church congregation activities and was a member of the "Life Light" adult Bible class. She kept God and her family first and was an unconditionally loving and dedicated woman, who will be deeply missed. Dorothy enjoyed volunteering and was the Coordinator at the Pantry in McCook from 1980-2017, along with helping deliver meals on wheels for many years. She was also a member of the Board of Directors of the High Plains Museum Board for several years and was a continually active member of the American Contract Bridge League (ACBL). She was a Bridge Life Master and always enjoyed playing bridge in leagues and with family. Garnet and Dorothy were bridge partners from 1990-2015 and traveled to numerous locations through the years playing bridge. Preceding her in death were her parents, Fred and Emma Friehe; husband, Garnet Henton; infant daughter, Jane Marie; brother, Ellsworth Friehe and Ervin Friehe; and sister, Elaine Friehe. Survivors include her children, Kathleen and husband, Paul Stubbe of Jeffrey Lake Nebraska, James and wife, Vickie Henton of Alliance, Nebraska, and Leah and husband, Bryan Fryer of Firestone, Colorado; grandchildren, Kim and husband, Clint Jones of Pacifica, California, Chris Taft of Wellfleet, Nebraska, Sarah Ficenec of Omaha, Nebraska, Jason Stubbe of Crested Butte, Colorado, Joshua and wife, Katie Stubbe of Rochester, New York, Jason and wife, Julie Henton of Scottsbluff, Nebraska, Jennifer and husband, Jason Swanson of Hemingford, Nebraska, Julie and husband, Justin Focken of Gering, Nebraska, Kyle Ellinger and fianc, Ambyr of Firestone, Colorado, and Kayla Fryer and fianc, Cameron of Firestone, Colorado; sister-in-law Delores Henton of McCook, Nebraska; along with numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, family, and a host of friends. Visitation will be held at the Herrmann-Jones Funeral Chapel from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 7, 2021. Family will be present from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. to greet friends. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 8, 2021, at 10:00 a.m. at the Peace Lutheran Church in McCook, with Pastor Lonnie Felcher officiating. Interment will be in the Memorial Park Cemetery in McCook. Memorials may be given to Peace Lutheran Church, 411 East 6th Street, McCook, NE 69001, McCook Pantry or Community Hospital Hospice.
