Dorothy Ankenman

Dorothy Lee (Manley) Ankenman, age 94, passed away peacefully on November 7, 2024 with family by her side at the Beaver City Manor in Beaver City, Nebraska. She was born on June 21, 1930 on the farm southeast of Wilsonville, Nebraska to Herman and Ethel (Brown) Manley. She attended grade school down by the Sappy Creek and then attended high school in Beaver City.


On July 25, 1946, Dorothy married Charles Ankenman in Norton, Kansas. They lived in Wilsonville until 1981. Dorothy was active in the Wilsonville Baptist Church and well as the Busy Bee and Double 8 clubs. She helped on the farm and worked many years at the Cambridge Hospital and Clinic. Dorothy and Charles owned the IGA grocery store in Wilsonville for a short time. They were also members of the Furnas County Livestock Association, Royal Neighbors and the American Legion and American Legion Auxiliary. In 1981, when they moved to Cambridge, they became active in the Congregational Church in Cambridge.


Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Charles; son, Lauren; parents, Ethel and Herman Manley; sister, Donna and Ray Machado; brother, Lavern and Donna Manley; and grandsons, Joel Bose, Ricky Bose and Christopher Stevens.


Survivors include daughters, Rita and Rick Bose of Mission, Texas, Janet and Don Trosper of Cambridge and Carol and Joseph Rindone of Birmingham, Alabama; sons, Kent and Rhonda Ankenman of Goodyear, Arizona and Mark Ankenman of San Diego, California; 15 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.


There will be no viewing or visitation; cremation was chosen. Memorial services are being planned for a later date.


In lieu of flowers, memorials in Dorothy's name are suggested to the Cambridge Rescue Services, the Wilsonville Cemetery or to the Wilsonville United Baptist-Christian Church. Online condolences may be left at lockenour.com. Lockenour-Jones Mortuary is entrusted with arrangements.
