Doris Ford

Doris Ford, age 91, of McCook, passed away early Sunday morning, June 19, 2022 at Hillcrest Nursing Home in McCook. Doris was born on October 19, 1930 in Dyersburg, Tennessee to Charley and Pearlie (Foster) Manley. On December 28, 1948, Doris was united in marriage to Walter Ford in Hernando, Mississippi. To this union two children would be born, Michael and Victoria. Walter was in the jewelry business and with their marriage a lifetime partnership began. Doris and Walter made their first home in Tennessee prior to moving to McCook in 1952. In 1954 they returned to Tennessee before making their final move to McCook in 1962. They owned and operated the Fords Jewelry Store in McCook; Doris was the face of the business, helping and greeting customers while Walter worked more in the back fixing and setting jewelry. Walter passed away in 1989 but Doris continued to work at the store until her retirement in 1997. Doris was a member of the Church of Christ in McCook. When not working or caring for her family, Doris enjoyed fishing, slot machines, country music, and dancing. She was happiest when taking care of others and took great pride in her large Sunday Dinners. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband Walter; brothers, Marvin Manley, Buford Manley, and Rodney Manley; as well as her sisters, Jane Green, Charlene Barnes, and Sybil Ryan. Survivors include her son, Mike (Laura) Ford of McCook; daughter, Vickie (Jim) Henton of Alliance, Nebraska; grandchildren: Tony (Trish) Ford of Culbertson, Nebraska; Joni Ford of Lincoln, Nebraska; Harrison (Megan) Ford of Maryland; Jason (Julie) Henton of Scottsbluff, Nebraska; Jennifer Henton of Alliance, Nebraska, and Julie (Justin) Focken of Gering, Nebraska; sister, Alice Blackley of Dyersburg, Tennessee; brother-in-law, Nathan (Mary) Ford of Newport, Tennessee; as well as many great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Funeral services will be held at 10AM, Tuesday morning, June 21, 2022 at Herrmann-Jones Funeral Chapel in McCook with Pastor Clark Bates officiating. Interment will follow services in Memorial Park Cemetery in McCook. Visitation will begin at 9AM the morning of services. Memorials are suggested to the family of Doris Ford for future designation.
