Dorinda Marie Polly, age 88, of McCook, Nebraska, passed away on September 8, 2025 in North Platte, Nebraska surrounded by family.
She was born on October 14, 1936 at home in Wauneta, Nebraska to Henry and Elise Haarberg. She was the 6th child of 7 in her family. Dorinda was baptized on November 8, 1936 at St. Paul Lutheran Church and confirmed in faith on April 2, 1950 at St. Paul Lutheran Church of Wauneta.
Dorinda married Kenneth Eugene Polly on April 7, 1956 and they shared 74 years together and were married 69 years and 4 months. Dorinda and Kenneth created a legacy through their 5 children, 10 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren.
She will be remembered most for the boundless love she poured into her family each and every day, especially in the way she cared for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Dorinda’s kitchen was the heart of her home, where the smell of her famous cinnamon rolls and dinner rolls drew loved ones together and created cherished memories around the table. Her faith was also central to her life. She was a devoted member of Peace Lutheran Church and joyfully served alongside dear friends in the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League.
Dorinda is survived by her husband, Kenneth. Her Children, David (Karla) Polly of McCook, Rhonda Polly of Pueblo, Jeff (Elaine) Polly of McCook, and Sarah (Chris) Hoehner of Kearney. Her grandchildren: Heather (Garret) Jones, Nick Kostos, Retha Wood, Sara Wood, Elise Polly, Logan Polly, Julia (Kyle) Clark, Nicole (Alex) Teten, Kellsey (Andy) McMahon, and Trevor Hoehner. Great-grandchildren: Landyn, Korbyn and Nolan Jones, McKenzie Farr, Victor Giron and Emersyn Brown, Evelyn and Asher Clark, Corb and Roy Teten, and Callahan McMahon.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Joni Marie Clapp; parents, Henry and Elise Haarberg; father and mother-in-law, Wendell Polly and Eunice Bodeman; and siblings: Harry Haarberg, Eldon Haarburg, Vicktor Haarberg, Erma Sueflow, Marlies Gauger, and Harlan Haarberg.
A service to honor Dorinda’s life will be held at Peace Lutheran Church at 411 E. 6th Street, McCook, Nebraska on Friday September 12, 2025 at 10:30 AM. Dorinda will be cremated in honor of her wishes. Private family burial will be held at a later date.
Memorials in Dorinda’s name are suggested to Peace Lutheran Church in McCook or to Pastoral Formation and Care for the Lutheran Church, Missouri Synod. Online condolences may be left at herrmannfh.com. Arrangements have been entrusted to Herrmann-Jones Funeral Chapel of McCook.
