Donald Lee Miller

Donald Lee Miller of McCook, age 81, passed away at the Hillcrest Nursing home on Saturday, January 2, 2016. He was born on September 19, 1934 at Terril, IA to Benjamin and Frances (Butterfield) Miller and was the 7th of nine children. He attended school at Terril, IA graduating in 1952. On October 15, 1953, he joined the U.S. Air Force and spent most of his service time overseas in Germany. He was discharged from the service on July 30, 1957. Don Attended Augustana College at Sioux Falls, IA and Iowa State at Ames, IA. Don was married to Cathryn Reardon on November 29, 1959 and to this union five children were born. Don worked for the Omaha Federal Reserve Bank from 1960 1971. From 1971 to 1978, he worked at the National Bank of York. He then moved to McCook in 1978 where he worked for the McCook National Bank until he retired in December 1996. Don married Linda Meeske on April, 28, 1992. Don enjoyed fishing, hunting, golf, camping, traveling, Nebraska football and volleyball, and spending winters in Weslaco, TX. Don was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Maurice, Walter and Frank; and sisters, Ruth Hagar, Charlotte Meyers, Marjorie Deal and Rose Boston. Don is survived by his wife, Linda of McCook, NE; children, Richard (Arlene) Miller of Topeka, KS, Mary (Paul) Danielson of Omaha, NE, Mike (Kayla) Miller of Kearney, NE, Bob (Amy) Miller of Seward, NE, and Susan (Bob) Dodds of Lincoln, NE; step-children, Gina Blocher, Lloyd (Lynette) Meeske, Galen Meeske, Karl (Karra) Meeske all of Champion, NE; brother, Kenneth Miller of Minneapolis, MN; 10 grandchildren; 13 step-grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends. Memorials may be given in his name to Wounded Warrior Project. Visitation is today until time of rosary at Herrmann Jones Funeral Chapel. Friends may go online at www.herrmannfh.com to extend condolences to the family. Rosary will be recited today, 7:00 p.m. at Herrmann Jones Funeral Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday, January 6, 2016, 10:30 a.m. at St. Patricks Catholic Church with Father Gary Brethour as Celebrant.
