Dolores Elizabeth Francis

Dolores Elizabeth Francis of McCook passed away Monday, January 8, 2018 at Community Hospital. She was 92 years old. Dolores was born on April 1, 1925, at Bulls Gap, TN to parents, Roscoe "Ross" T. and Esther (Keever) Barnes. She graduated from Herndon High School, Herndon, KS. On April 27, 1942 Dolores was united in marriage to Verle Dale Francis at Smith Center, KS. To this union five children were born. They made their home in several locations throughout the country as Verle worked for the railroad. Dolores was a busy homemaker and mother. She also worked for Sehnerts Bakery. Dolores was a member of the Church of Latter Day Saints. Her hobbies included Ham Radio, sewing, bowling, and putting puzzles together. She also volunteered as a Pink Lady at Community Hospital. Preceding her in death were her parents, Ross and Esther Barnes; husband, Verle Francis; daughter, Kathy Francis Taylor; and two sons, Keith and Craig Francis. Survivors include her daughter, Arlene Eloise and husband, Dean Thornton, of Wakeeney, KS; son, Leland Francis and wife, Lois, of Wilson, KS; 10 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Mary Francis of Lancaster, PA; and two special friends, Sharon Walker and Kara Sue Walker of McCook. Memorials may be given in her name. The family will honor Dolores wishes to be cremated. A private family service will be held at a later time. Herrmann Jones Funeral Chapel of McCook is entrusted with arrangements.
