Dennis Ray Matson

In loving memory of Dennis Ray Matson, 79, of McCook, NE. who passed away on February 21, 2025 at Community Hospital in McCook, surrounded by family.

Dennis was born on June 1, 1945 at St. Catherine’s Hospital in McCook to parents, Barton Rea and Grace Lucille (Fuqua) Matson. Dennis was the eighth child of ten. He was raised in McCook and graduated from McCook High School in 1963.

In 1964, Dennis married the love of his life, Nancy Bailey, they made their home in McCook. To this union seven children were born: Ronald, Michael, Robert, Denise, Tami, Kimberly and Travis. Dennis was a devoted husband and father.

Dennis worked as a drywall and stucco professional for Roger Goltl for over 56 years. He was an all-around handyman and mechanic. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Dennis enjoyed visiting with others, and no one was a stranger. He was always willing to lend a helping hand. In his spare time, he tinkered with vehicles, rode motorcycles, went to auctions/garage sales and was a collector of many items. Dennis was a man of immense humor and wisdom, cherishing every moment spent with his loved ones. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Dennis was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Dorothy Scott, Beulah Gill and Dixie Anthony; brothers, Donald and David Matson; and sons-in-law, Brock Johnson and Shaun Henry.

Survivors include his wife, Nancy Matson of McCook; children: Ronald (Shanon) Matson of Kearney, NE, Michael Matson of Bartley, NE, Robert (Yolanda) Matson of McCook, Denise (John) McRae of McCook, Tami Johnson of Gothenburg, NE, Kimberly (Steven) Golgart of Wray, CO and Travis (Toni) Matson of McCook; twenty-one grandchildren: Adrienne, Drew, Christine, Drake, Brittney, Shai, Shaedee, Kyle, Ashley, Christopher, Justice, Cheyenne, Dale, Sarah, Matthew, Abigail, Karrea, Sadie, Raychal, Kolten and Madelyn; twenty-one great-grandchildren: Kadie, Dreanna, Angelina, Wesley, Brooke, Quinten, William, Deklin, Davian, Lane, Keaton, Owen, Khloe, Caden, Shaun, Lea, Harper, Mileena, Alaina, Cypress and Addilynn; sisters, Delores Wood of Littleton, CO, Devona Sattler of Herndon, KS, Carolyn Wallace of Omaha, NE and Vickie-Sue Magee of Arvada, CO; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Cremation was chosen and memorial services are scheduled for 2:00 PM on Saturday, March 8, 2024 at McCook Christian Church.
