Dennis 'Pete' Leroy Malleck

Dennis L. "Pete" Malleck, age 78, formerly from Indianola, Nebraska, passed away at Hays Medical Center in Hays, Kansas on August 6, 2020. Pete was born in McCook, Nebraska on March 5, 1942 to James and Genevieve (Powers) Malleck. He attended school in Indianola graduating from Indianola High School in 1960. He excelled in all sports, especially basketball. Pete continued his education attending Milford Trade School in Milford, Nebraska, studying diesel mechanics. On August 13, 1960, Pete was united in marriage to Marilyn McConville. They would have celebrated 60 years of marriage this year. He was a charter member of the Russell Cross-Trailers Square Dance Club, an active member of the Petticoat Poppers Square Dance Club of Hays, Kansas, a member of the Knights of Columbus Russell Council, a member of the Leisure Years Center in Ness City where he enjoyed the food and playing cards, and a member of the Sacred Heart Parish of Ness City where he attended daily mass. Pete helped with distribution of commodities in Ness City and really enjoyed his family, playing solitaire, traveling and tinkering in his shed. He had a great talent for fixing things. Pete worked as a bottom-hole pump specialist working in the oil fields from Indianola to Russell, Kansas to Hays and finally to Ness City. He retired from Sunrise Oilfield Supply in Ness City. He was preceded in death by his parents: Jim and Genevieve; brothers: Marvin and wife, Judy, Tom and wife, Sherry; sisters: Jane and husband, Dan Bahl and Judy Malleck and husband, Keith; brother-in-law: Joe Ried. Pete is survived by his wife, Marilyn of Ness City, KS; daughter, Vanessa and husband, Terry Rinehart of Burlington, CO; four sons: Kevin and wife, Gina, of Topeka, KS; Tom and wife, Lynn of Basehor, KS; Paul and wife, Kelly, of Victoria, KS; Matt and wife, Megan, of Basehor, KS. His grandchildren: Josh and Clarissa Rinehart, Nick Rinehart and Samantha, Ben Rinehart and Krista, Andrew and Casey Malleck, Adam and Marah Malleck, Michael Malleck and Amber, Tony and Marissa Malleck, Josh and Mallory Koerner, Emma Malleck, Erica Malleck, Madison Malleck and Mason Malleck; ten great grandchildren; three step grandchildren and several step great grandchildren; two brothers: Lonnie and wife, Jo, of Indianola, NE; Philip and friend, Tammy, of Indianola, NE; two sisters: Vonda Parrott of Lincoln, NE; Jeannine Reed of Lincoln, NE; brothers-in-law: Randy Keith of Indianola; Robert and wife, Kathy, McConville, Indianola, NE; sister-in-law, Cecelia Saladen of Santa Fe, NM. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, August 14, 2020 10:30 at St. Catherines Catholic Church in Indianola with Father Greg Pawloski and Father Pascal Klein co-celebrating. Visitation will be held at the Herrmann Jones Funeral Chapel in McCook on Thursday, August 13, 2020 from 10:00 AM until after the Rosary, with the family greeting guests from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM. A Rosary will be recited at 7:00 PM on Thursday at Herrmann Jones Funeral Chapel. Interment will be in the St. Catherines Catholic Cemetery in Indianola. Friends may leave on-line condolences at herrmannfh.com. Memorials may be left in Petes name to St. Catherines Catholic Church in Indianola, Sacred Heart Catholic Church and school in Ness City, or EWTN TV Network.
