David “Sean” Keeney, 58, of Billings, MT passed away on July 5, 2026 following a courageous battle with heart disease.
Born on July 10, 1967 in Imperial, Nebraska to his parents Edwin James “Jim” Keeney and Joan Lucille (Brown) Keeney, the family resided in and around Culbertson, NE where Sean attended several schools in the area making many friends. Sean graduated from Culbertson High School in 1985 and attended both the University of Nebraska, Kearney and then the University of Nebraska, Lincoln where he studied civil engineering.
Sean began work with the US Bureau of Reclamation as a student trainee during college and after graduation from the University of Nebraska, Lincoln in 1989 with a degree in civil engineering, Sean joined the Bureau full time in Billings as an engineer working on our federal dams, power plants and canal systems; a job he enjoyed for almost 40 years.
Sean met Bobbi, the love of his life, in Billings in the late 1990s and the two eventually made their home together in their “little brick house on the hill” in 2003, eventually marrying in 2006. The couple traveled extensively and doted on their numerous nieces and nephews.
Sean retired in 2024 and the couple excitedly began planning their next adventure in Oregon where they were actively searching for their forever retirement home.
Sean is survived by his wife, Bobbi (Arnold) Keeney of Billings, Montana; beloved niece and honorary daughter, Sara and Austin Thompson of Omaha, Nebraska; nephew. Jacob and Lydia Bohac of Denver, Colorado; nephew, Henry Bohac and Ashley Colwell of Denver, Colorado; sister, Katheen and Bill Hidy of McCook, Nebraska; sister, Alanna and Joe Morosic of Indianola, Nebraska; niece, Anissa (son, Lonny) Morosic of McCook, Nebraska; niece, Ashlee and Brenton Ellis (daughters, Adelynn and Alara) of Indianola, Nebraska; and brother, Michael Keeney (daughter, Erin) of Hadar, Nebraska.
Sean was preceded in death by his parents, Jim Keeney and Joan Keeney and his much-beloved sister, Lisa Bohac.
Sean will be remembered for his unwavering kindness, his generous spirit and infectious laugh as well as his incredible devotion as a husband and uncle. He lived a remarkable life touching the hearts of everyone he met and he will be lovingly remembered forever in our hearts.
Visitation for will be held on Tuesday, July 14, 2026 at Herrmann-Jones Funeral Chapel in McCook from 3:00 PM - 6:00 PM.
Graveside services in the Trenton Cemetery are scheduled for 10:00 AM on Wednesday morning, July 15, 2026.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Heart Association. Online condolences may be left at herrmannfh.com. Arrangements have been entrusted to Herrmann-Jones Funeral Chapel of McCook.
