Darlene Leibbrandt

Darlene Leibbrandt, age 94, of Danbury, NE., passed away at the Swedish Medical Center in Englewood, CO on January 6, 2023. She was born northwest of Culbertson in Hitchcock County to Jacob and Katie Eckhardt on December 2, 1928. She graduated from Culbertson High school in 1946. Darlene was united in marriage to Dale Leibbrandt in 1946. Dale preceded her in death on May 2, 2016. Darlene was a Hitchcock County 'Jacks' Champion. She loved to embroider and was an avid reader. Darlene was known for her German cooking of sauerkraut, German Nifla dumplings and ham hocks. The family kept grandkids away from grandmas house when the University of Nebraska was on the radio or TV, due to Darlene's exuberant Husker fan spirit of all Nebraska sports: football, wrestling, gymnastics, swimming, baseball, and volleyball. She didnt miss many of her kids or grandkids sporting or school events. She was employed by Parker-Hannifin for 22 years. Darlene was a member of the Peace Lutheran Church of McCook. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jacob and Katie; husband, Dale; son, Lynn; daughter-in-law, Laurie Leibbrandt; and host of siblings. Darlene is survived by her daughter, Luann (Marty Merryman) Leibbrandt; two sons, LaVern Leibbrandt, Rocky (Judy) Leibbrandt all of Danbury, NE; six grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren; sister, Marian Roach of Denver; and many nieces nephews and extended family members. A Graveside Service will be held on Monday, January 16, 2023, at 11:00 AM at Memorial Park Cemetery of McCook, NE with Pastor Lonnie Felcher officiating. In lieu of flowers the family has asked memorials to be given in Darlenes name to either the Beaver Valley Fire and Rescue Department or the McCook Community Hospice.
