Dale Mitchem

Dale Vern Mitchem, 86, of McCook, Nebraska, passed away on Wednesday, May 14, 2025.

Dale was born on February 8, 1939, in McCook, Nebraska, to Dale Jesse Mitchem (deceased) and Fern Elizabeth (Worske) Mitchem (deceased). After completing the 8th grade, Dale began his working life at the local sale barn. He worked as a meat cutter for many years and later found employment at the local rubber hose plant and Hillcrest Nursing Home. Throughout his life, Dale took on various odd jobs around McCook, always willing to lend a helping hand wherever needed.

On December 26, 1970, Dale married Jane Henrietta Hrnchir, and together they raised two children, Serena and Shawn.

Dale was the firstborn of ten children: Virginia (deceased), Larry (deceased), Robert "Bob" (deceased), Sandra, Linda, Mike, Erma, Viretta (deceased at birth), and Laura.

Dale, often referred to as Babe by his family, enjoyed watching old western movies and was rarely seen without one of his beloved cowboy hats. He enjoyed all of his farm animals, especially his horses. In his later years, Dale could often be found at local auctions with Jane by his side, always on the lookout for treasures. Jane was not just his loving wife but his very best friend, and he enjoyed their life together. He shared over 54 years of devoted marriage, as well as time spent with his family.

Dale is survived by his wife, Jane; daughter, Serena and family of Kansas; son, Shawn and family of Nebraska; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and his siblings: Sandra, Linda, Mike, Erma, and Laura.

Cremation was chosen and services are scheduled for 10:30 AM on Saturday morning, May 24, 2025 at Herrmann-Jones Funeral Chapel in McCook. A funeral luncheon will follow after services and will be announced later.
