Dale R. Crocker

Dale R. Crocker of Kearney, formerly of McCook, passed away on Saturday, August 10, 2019 at the Grand Island VA Medical Center. He was 84 years old. Dale was born on January 6, 1935 to Bernard J. and Esther "Fay" (Neel) Crocker. He graduated from Red Willow High School in 1953 and continued his education at McCook College. On May 31, 1955 Dale entered the US Army and proudly served his country until his honorable discharge on May 29, 1957. He continued in the Reserves until May 30, 1963. Dale was united in marriage to Norma J. Lebsack at St. Catherines Catholic Church in Indianola on September 1, 1956. Four daughters blessed this union, Cathy, Barbara, Lisa and Karen. They made their home on a farm southwest of Indianola where they had a dairy operation as well as raising crops and cattle. While on the farm he enjoyed hunting, helping his neighbors, playing cards and teaching his daughters to work hard. He was also an avid Husker fan! In 1988 they sold their farm and moved to McCook and Dale went to work for Weathercraft Roofing. He loved talking with customers. In his retirement years he looked forward to his coffee time with friends. He also loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and attending their activities. Dale was a member of St. Patricks Catholic Church in McCook and later St. James Catholic Church in Kearney. Preceding him in death were his parents, one brother, Burdette Crocker, and a sister, Pat Timblin. Survivors include his wife of almost 63 years, Norma Crocker of Kearney; daughters, Cathy (Dan) Winder of Kearney, Barbara (Chuck) Henwood of Fort Worth, Texas, Lisa Horsley of Kearney and Karen Wilhelm of Lincoln; two sisters, Rose Weskamp of Concord, CA and Lyllis Lashley of Corvallis, OR; 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; and numerous family and friends. Memorials may be given in his name. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, August 16, 2019, with family present to greet friends from 5:00 p.m. to the time of Rosary which will be recited at 7:00 p.m. at Herrmann Jones Funeral Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, August 17, 2019, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Patricks Catholic Church in McCook with Father Gary Brethour as Celebrant. Burial will follow in the Calvary Cemetery, McCook. Herrmann Jones Funeral Chapel of McCook is entrusted with arrangements.
