Dale Dean Bailey of Broken Bow, Nebraska, passed away on Thursday, August 11, 2022, at the CHI St. Francis Hospital in Grand Island, Neb. with his wife, five nephews and five nieces at his side. Dale was born on the home place in Hayes County, Neb. on July 27, 1931, to Ervin and Millie (Buzzard) Bailey. Dale attended Elementary School District #63 in Hayes County where he received his Elementary School Diploma. Dale enlisted in the United States Army on February 1952 and was Honorably Discharged on February 25, 1954. On September 16, 1955, he was united in marriage to Beverly Smith at North Platte, Neb. The couple enjoyed 67 years of marriage. Dale worked for many years as a mechanic for Boulder Motorways in Colorado until 1977. Dale and Bev purchased a gas station and repair shop called the D & B Service in Culbertson. Dale continued to operate the station until 1988. He then began to run a fuel truck at the COOP in Trenton until his retirement in 1996. Dale loved camping, hunting, fishing, woodworking and especially time with family. Dale served on the Board of Housing Authority for 17 years. He was an instructor for Hunter Safety. Dale was a member of the American Legion Post #59. He was preceded in death by his parents, Erwin and Millie; sisters: Geraldine Mowry, Annabelle Ebert, infant Fern, Lola Mae (Roland) Wilke; brothers: Edward, Melvin, Edgar and Marlin. Dale is survived by his wife, Beverly of Callaway, NE; sisters, Twila (Roger) Olson of Grand Island, Shirley (Byron) Peters of McCook; special niece, Janet Schaad, of Callaway; several other nieces and nephews. A Graveside Memorial Service will be held at Fort McPherson National Cemetery at Maxwell, NE with Military Honors on Wednesday, August 17, 2022, at 2:00 pm with Marvin Wilke officiating.
