CAMBRIDGE, Nebaska -- Clyde D. Fischer, age 75, of Cambridge, died at Hillcrest Nursing Home in McCook, Nebraska, on Saturday, March 7, 2014.
He was born in McCook on Aug. 31, 1938, to James and Leola Ruth (Kistler) Fischer. Clyde grew up south of Curtis. He graduated from UNSTA at Curtis in 1957.
He worked on the family farm until he joined the U.S. Army in 1961. He was Honorably discharged from the Army in 1964 as a Sargent. Clyde returned to the farm, where he also helped his brother David building terraces and doing dirt work in the Curtis area.
On Aug. 8, 1965, he was united in marriage to Cathy Sayer. In 1973, they moved to a farm north of Holbrook, Nebraska. Clyde and Cathy farmed until they retired and moved to Cambridge in 1993.
Clyde was an avid sports fan, playing Legion baseball and football. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was known to his friends as 'Catfish Charlie.' He loved to attend his kids and grandchildren's school activities and sporting events. He taught them the hard work and the joy of farming.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Lola Ruppert; brother ande wife: Richard and Elane Fischer and brothers-in-law, Mack Nutt and Bob Eaton.
He is survived by his wife, Cathy of Cambridge; four sons, Bruce and wife, Mary of Grand Island; Jeffrey and wife, Jolene of Cambridge, Kevin and wife, Connie of McCook, Nebraska and Thomas and wife, Lisa of Holbrook, Nebraska; nine grandchildren; five great-granddaughters; brothers, David and wife, Delma Fischer of Maywood and James and wife, Lois of Casper, Wyoming; sisters, Lucille Nutt of Curtis, Nebraska, and Barbara Eaton of Casper, Wyoming; and brother-in-law, John Ruppert of McCook, Nebraska.
Funeral services will be at the Lockenour-Jones Mortuary in Cambridge on Wednesday, March 12, 2014, at 11 a.m. with Pastor Jeff Wulf officiating. Interment will be in the Fort McPherson National Cemetery in Maxwell at 3 p.m. Wednesday with military honors.
