Clarence Howard Lorentz

Clarence Harold (Pete) Lorentz, age 90, of Herndon, KS passed away at the Emerald Care Center in Cozad, NE on November 18, 2019. He was born in Akron, CO on December 31, 1928 to Pete and Anna (Wudtke) Lorentz. He graduated from Herndon High School in 1946. On February 8, 1951 Clarence enlisted in the US Navy. He received the National Defense Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal before being honorably discharged on January 21, 1955. Clarence was united in marriage to Evelyn Fay Frick on October 8, 1955 in Herndon, KS. Five children were born to this union. Evelyn preceded him in death on January 12, 2014. Clarence played semi-pro baseball in the area. Once, when a team from Denver came out to play with a "hotshot" ball player, Clarence struck him out! Later, they found out, that "hotshot" player was Billy Martin who went on to manage the New York Yankees. Clarence also played on area softball teams. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and was a life member of the Herndon VFW and member of the McCook Elks. He was preceded in death by his parents, Pete and Anna Lorentz; wife, Evelyn Lorentz; sister, Betty and husband, Bob Smith; brother, Marvin Lorentz; brother-in-law, Jim Rippetoe; in-laws, Arvene & Jackie Frick and Roy (Vernon) and Sue Frick. Clarence is survived by two daughters, Sandra and husband, Andrew Green, of Herndon, KS and Sherri and husband, Carl Stouffer, of Schoenchen, KS; three sons, Rick Lorentz and Janet Haag of McCook, Rodney and Roger Lorentz, both of Herndon, KS; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Dixie Lorentz of McCook, Dorothy Alstrom of Oberlin, KS, Hazel Rippetoe of Dell City, OK; brother, Elvin and Eleanor Odle of Prairie View, KS; in-laws, LaVern (Sharon) Frick of Herndon and Denise (Jerry) Holbrook of Crab Orchard, TN. Memorial services will be held at the Herrmann-Jones Funeral Chapel in McCook on Friday, November 22, 2019 at 2:00 PM with Rev. Clark Bates officiating. An inurnment will be planned for a future date by the family in the Herndon Cemetery. Friends may leave on-line condolences at herrmannfh.com.
