Christopher Michael Fichtner

Christopher Michael Fichtner, age 37, passed away Friday, October 6, 2017, at his home in McCook with family by his side after a courageous 13 year battle with cancer. He was born in McCook on July 24, 1980, to Bruce L. and Beth L. (O'Dea) Fichtner. Chris attended school in McCook until fifth grade when he moved to Hayes Center, graduating with the class of 1999. He later attended the Mason City Iowa College of Auctioneers, graduating in 2007. He was baptized and confirmed at the St. John's Lutheran Church in Curtis. Chris loved ranching, working with cattle, and riding and roping with horses. When his health permitted, Chris worked for various farmers and ranchers along with SQ Auction Services. From the time he was a small child to present day he enjoyed going to auctions especially cattle auctions. He was preceded in death by his father, Bruce L. Fichtner; grandparents, Leslie and LaVada Fichtner and Carlton "C. J." O'Dea; and cousins, Nicholas O'Dea and Adam Potthoff. Surviving Chris is his mother, Beth O'Dea of McCook; brother, Brandon Fichtner of McCook; grandparents, Marilyn O'Dea and husband, Gordon Bohl, of Arvada, CO; aunts, Beth and husband, Mike Messersmith, of Gothenburg, NE and Joyce and husband, Darrell Potthoff, of Lincoln, NE; uncles, Andrew ODea and wife, Lori, Steven O'Dea and wife, Dawn, all of McCook and Pastor Joe Fichtner and wife, Ann, of Ft. Wayne, IN; along with numerous cousins and a host of friends. Memorials may be left in Chris's name at the Herrmann Jones Funeral Chapel. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 10, 10:00 a.m. till 7:00 p.m. with family present from 5:00 p.m. till 7:00 p.m. Friends may leave on-line condolences at herrmannfh.com Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 11, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. at the McCook Christian Church in McCook with Jerry Beckenhauer officiating.
